The National Assembly of the XV Congress has just approved the High-Speed North-South Railway Project with an investment scale of a new 1,541km long route, a design speed of 350km/h; starting at the Ngoc Hoi station (Hanoi Capital), ending at Thu Thiem station (Ho Chi Minh City), passing through 20 provinces and centrally-run cities.
According to the pre-feasibility report, the total length of the North-South high-speed rail line in Hanoi is about 27.9km, with the route starting from Ngoc Hoi station, basically following the planned corridor; reaching the end of Phu Xuyen district, the route turns east to bypass the Dong Van Industrial Park in Duy Tien district, Ha Nam province.
Then the route crosses National Highway 1 and the existing railway, heading east towards the high-speed road to Phu Ly city. Phu Ly station is located in Liêm Tiết ward, Phu Ly city, near the Liêm Tuyền intersection, east of the expressway.
The North-South high-speed rail station in Ngoc Hoi is located within the Ngoc Hoi complex in Ngoc Hoi and Lien Ninh wards (Thanh Tri district, Hanoi).
Hanoi is expected to allocate about 250 hectares for the Ngoc Hoi complex to fully develop the functions of a national and urban hub station.
In terms of scale, the Ngoc Hoi high-speed rail station is oriented to have 4 double-track roads, functioning as a northern hub station, with all trains stopping here.
The Ngoc Hoi Depot is expected to be located in the western area of the Ngoc Hoi complex, covering an area of about 70 hectares. The North-South high-speed rail depot is used for stabling and scheduling trains before performing maintenance and service operations on locomotives, carriages, and checking construction vehicles…
The maintenance station is located within the Ngoc Hoi depot area to optimize land use. The maintenance station is used for scheduling maintenance vehicles (tamping machines, jacking and packing machines, air conditioning three-layer machines…) and storing supplies and materials for the Hanoi – Phu Ly section.
Meanwhile, in Nguyen Trai and Van Phu communes (Thuong Tin district), the Thuong Tin freight station is arranged as the southern freight hub of Hanoi. However, the scale will be calculated in the next steps of the project.
In terms of connectivity, the Ngoc Hoi complex in Hanoi is planned with a fully synchronized transportation system: Ring Road 3.5, Ring Road 4, National Highway 1, 3 urban railway lines (1, 1A, 6) and a bus system, as well as a square to accommodate taxis and private vehicles. In addition, the connection to 4 national railway lines will help quickly and conveniently relieve the passenger flow of the North-South high-speed railway.
Especially for railway connections, from the Ngoc Hoi complex, the North-South high-speed railway connects with the North of the Red River railway network through the eastern and western belt railway systems according to the planning; connects to the center of Hanoi via urban railway line No. 1; connects to Noi Bai International Airport via urban railway line No. 6; connects to Hai Phong seaport, international transit with China through the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong route and the Hanoi – Lang Son route.
On November 30, the National Assembly of the XV Congress approved the North-South High-Speed Railway Project. The project has a total route length of about 1,541km; starting at Ngoc Hoi station (Hanoi Capital), ending at Thu Thiem station (Ho Chi Minh City), passing through 20 provinces and centrally-run cities.
The project invests in a new double-track line with a width of 1,435mm, a design speed of 350km/h, an axle load of 22.5 tons; 23 passenger stations, 5 freight stations; vehicles, equipment; high-speed rail for passenger transport, meeting the requirements of dual-use for national defense and security, and can transport goods if necessary.
In terms of technology, it applies rail-running, electrified railway technology; ensuring modernity, synchronization, safety, and efficiency.
The preliminary total investment of the project is VND 1,713,548 billion, using public investment capital, state budget sources allocated in the mid-term public investment plans, and other legal capital sources.
