The Human Act Prize is an annual award that recognizes individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to society through reputable community initiatives and projects that have a timely, long-lasting, and sustainable impact.
With the theme “Community Co-creation,” the Human Act Prize 2024 aims to promote collaboration and connectivity in community activities. It not only honors excellent initiatives but also encourages the replication of effective models. Additionally, the theme emphasizes the importance of partnerships between large enterprises, organizations, and small volunteer groups in bringing about positive and sustainable change.
Among many nominations, Vietnam Airlines excelled in winning the “Sustainable Development Idea” award for its project, “Contributing Leaves to Mend the Forest – For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam.” This project is a collaboration between Vietnam Airlines, MoMo, and PanNature. In 2023, Vietnam Airlines was honored with the Human Act Prize in the “Persistent Project” category for its “Connecting Love with Golden Lotus” initiative.
In 2024, the project, “Contributing Leaves to Mend the Forest – For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam,” leverages Vietnam Airlines’ existing customer base, MoMo’s optimized financial-technological platform, and PanNature’s expertise in forest conservation and restoration projects. Vietnam Airlines and MoMo jointly contribute VND 5,000, equivalent to one “leaf,” from each Vietnam Airlines flight booking transaction over VND 2 million, towards the forest restoration program implemented in 2024.
The project, “For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam,” aims to restore forests along the corridor connecting Hoa Binh and Son La provinces, which have suffered severe degradation due to human activities. Officially launched on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, the project has, in over six months, planted more than 60,000 trees of 18 native species, restoring over 80 hectares of forest in the two areas. This has contributed to improving the habitat for numerous wildlife species.
Beyond its environmental impact, the project also brings significant benefits to the local community. Eco-tourism development and forest product harvesting activities have created sustainable livelihoods for hundreds of households. Notably, more than 600 local residents have directly participated in forest planting, gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of natural resource protection for their lives and livelihoods.
The project, “For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam,” also aims to restore 500 hectares of forest in Hoa Binh and Son La provinces by 2032. In this endeavor, businesses and customers will contribute financially, PanNature will be responsible for technical implementation and supervision, and local authorities and communities will take charge of planting, caring for, and protecting the forests.
This initiative has been included in the event library of the global airline alliance, SkyTeam, highlighting Vietnam Airlines’ pioneering position not only in leading national-scale initiatives but also in making a powerful impact on an international scale. It leaves a profound impression of the airline’s social responsibility and commitment to practical solutions for the future.
For many years, Vietnam Airlines has continuously joined hands with the community to participate in environmental protection programs. In 2022, the airline signed an agreement with the Youth Union of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to implement the project, “Planting Special-Use Forests to Protect the Ecological Environment in Bach Ma National Park, Thua Thien Hue Province.”
This project was in response to the Government’s proposal to plant 1 billion trees and achieve the target of planting 30 million new trees set by the Resolution of the 11th National Congress of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the program, “Million Trees – For a Green Vietnam.”
In 2023, Vietnam Airlines coordinated the launching ceremony for the “For a Green Vietnam” forest planting campaign in Hoa Binh province. During this event, Vietnam Airlines planted 10,000 trees. Additionally, in Ha Tinh, the airline planted more than 3,000 green lim trees in the Ngàn Phố protective forest.
