According to statistics from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), pickup truck sales in the Vietnamese market in November reached 3,010 units, up 12% from the previous month and the highest monthly sales since the beginning of 2023.

Cumulative sales for the first 11 months of the year totaled 20,775 units, a 17% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

There are currently six models in the pickup truck segment in Vietnam, including the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Triton, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, and Nissan Navara. Among these, the Mazda BT-50 has been discontinued since May due to underwhelming sales performance, and Nissan does not disclose its sales results.

After 11 months, the Ford Ranger continues to reign supreme, with sales of 15,904 units, a 12% increase compared to the same period last year, capturing a dominant 77% market share.

Ranking second is the Mitsubishi Triton with 2,347 units sold, a 5% increase compared to the same period last year. The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton offers three variants: 4×2 AT GLX, 4×2 AT Premium, and 4×4 AT Athlete, with prices ranging from 655 million to 924 million VND. These prices are slightly higher than the previous-generation models by 5 million to 19 million VND.

Toyota Hilux takes third place in sales with 2,029 units sold so far this year, leading the growth rate with a remarkable 1,497% increase. The Isuzu D-Max follows in fourth place with 490 units sold, a 4% increase compared to the same period last year.

The preferences of Vietnamese consumers when choosing a pickup truck are in stark contrast to those in other markets in the region, such as Thailand. While the Ford Ranger is the favorite among Vietnamese buyers, in Thailand, the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max are the top choices.

It is predicted that the Ford Ranger will maintain its reign as the king of pickup trucks, thanks to its advantage of stable domestic assembly supply, a wide range of model options, and a design that appeals to Vietnamese consumers. In the last month of the year, the Ford Ranger will continue to benefit from the policy of a 50% reduction in registration fees, further boosting its sales potential.

Currently, Ford Vietnam offers the XL, XLS, Sport, Wildtrak, Stormtrak, and the special edition Raptor, with prices ranging from 659 million to 1.299 billion VND. Among these, the Ranger Raptor, imported from Thailand, holds the highest price tag, while the Ranger Stormtrak is sold online at 1.039 billion VND.

According to automotive experts, with the consistent growth across segments and vehicle origins in November 2024, the Vietnamese automobile market is showing significant improvement, especially with the strong demand from consumers during the year-end period. This is an optimistic sign for the market in the remaining months of the year and heading into 2025.

Car brands and consumers are making the most of supportive policies to boost sales in the final months of the year. With intense competition and flexible strategies from automakers, the Vietnamese automobile market is expected to witness more notable developments in the near future.
