The trend of electric vehicles is becoming increasingly prominent in the Vietnamese market, with numerous new models launched in 2024. With prices below 1 billion VND, electric cars are becoming more accessible to domestic customers. However, the infrastructure for charging stations – a significant factor influencing customers’ purchasing decisions – remains an issue that only VinFast has addressed so far.

Below is a list of electric vehicles priced below 1 billion VND that were launched this year.

Mini Segment

The VinFast VF 3 is the only new mini electric car model this year, and it’s becoming a hot item. In some months, VF 3 sales reached nearly 5,000 cars, setting a record in Vietnam.

The VF 3 is a small SUV-like car with 2 doors on either side. Its affordable price, starting at 235 million VND (for pioneer customers), makes it very accessible. This price is for the battery rental option. For non-pioneer customers, the battery rental price is 240 million VND, while the price to own the battery is 322 million VND.

Despite being a “budget” option, the VF 3 still offers features like electronic parking brakes, a gear shift knob behind the steering wheel, and a large 10-inch screen.

Hatchback Segment

While the hatchback segment has seen the departure of several gasoline-powered cars, such as the Toyota Yaris, Honda Jazz, and more recently, the Suzuki Swift, it has welcomed some new electric models in 2024.

The Wuling Bingo is the newest hatchback on the market, priced at 349 million VND. This is comparable to the price range of gasoline-powered cars like the Hyundai Grand i10 and Kia Morning.

The Bingo has a pleasing design and modern features, including a pair of large screens and electronic brakes. It offers an impressive maximum range of 510 km per charge.

The BYD Dolphin is a slightly more expensive hatchback option, starting at 659 million VND.

The Dolphin is larger than the Bingo and boasts a more prominent interior with a 12.8-inch rotatable center screen. Its electric motor and battery provide a range of 405 km per charge.

The most expensive hatchback in this group is the MG4, with a starting price of 828 million VND and a top-end price of 948 million VND.

Compared to the other hatchbacks mentioned, the MG4 stands out with its ADAS safety package. Its convenience features are not exceptionally superior, and it offers a range of around 450 km per charge.

Sedan Segment

The AION ES is the only sedan in the electric vehicle market priced below 1 billion VND. It is similar in size to the Toyota Camry and starts at 788 million VND.

The ES’s features are not exceptionally outstanding when compared to gasoline-powered sedans in the same price range, such as the Kia K5 or Mazda6. It does not have ADAS, and its range is approximately 440 km per charge.

CUV Segment

In the CUV segment, the BYD Atto 3 is the only option, priced at 766 million VND.

The Atto 3 has a sophisticated interior design, featuring a large 15.6-inch rotatable center screen, an 8-speaker audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. It also includes ADAS and offers a range of up to 480 km per charge.

MPV Segment

The BYD M6 is an MPV priced at 756 million VND. Its size is comparable to that of the Toyota Innova Cross.

The M6 offers 7 seats and slightly improved features compared to the Dolphin. Its range is 420 km per charge.

The second MPV option is the AION Y Plus, priced at 888 million VND. The Y Plus is slightly smaller than the M6.

The Y Plus has a more modern and sleek interior with a combination of a 10.25-inch and a 14.6-inch touchscreen. Its technology is also more notable, with various ADAS features and a 540-degree camera. It offers an impressive range of up to 490 km per charge.
