The project to upgrade and expand the Vung Tau – Binh Chau coastal road plays a crucial role in connecting Vung Tau city with the new beach tourism hub in Ho Tram (Xuyen Moc). Additionally, it completes the transport network linking Long Thanh airport and the Cai Mep – Thi Vai port cluster.

The existing road connecting Vung Tau and Binh Thuan provinces was constructed two decades ago and has become increasingly inadequate for current traffic demands. The project will upgrade the road to a 6-to-8-lane highway with a designed speed of 80km/h.

The Vung Tau – Binh Chau coastal road passes through 5 out of 7 districts, towns, and cities in the province. It starts from Phu My town, goes through Vung Tau city, Long Dien and Dat Do districts, and ends in the tourist area of Binh Chau, Xuyen Moc district.

The road also directly connects the Cai Mep – Thi Vai port cluster with large industrial parks, Long Thanh airport, and the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau expressway.

Therefore, upon completion, the project will boost inter-provincial cargo transportation and significantly drive the local economy, as well as that of the key southern economic region.

The project to upgrade and expand the Vung Tau – Binh Chau coastal road broke ground in June 2023, with a total length of nearly 78 km and an investment of VND 7,000 billion. Over 43 hectares of forest land has been converted for the project, which is expected to be completed in Q3 2025.

The project starts at the intersection with Road 991B (Phu My town) and ends at National Highway 55 (Xuyen Moc district). The photo shows the completed section from the beginning of the project to National Highway 51.

Only a short section of the road from the Vung Tau – Binh Chau coastal road intersection to Cua Lap Bridge has been constructed so far. The surroundings are still mostly mangrove forests. This new road will have 6 lanes.

These days, the construction site is bustling with machinery and workers striving to meet the project deadline.

The photo shows the construction of the new Cua Lap 2 Bridge, connecting Vung Tau city and Long Dien district. This is a critical component for connecting the city center with eastern beach centers such as Long Hai, Phuoc Hai, Ho Tram, and Ho Coc.

The project, once completed, will strongly connect the two provinces of Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Binh Thuan, contributing not only to economic development but also playing a significant role in ensuring national defense and security.
