Over 90,000 Passengers Took the HCMC Metro on Christmas Eve

On the morning of December 25th, HURC1, the operator of HCMC’s first metro line (Bến Thành – Suối Tiên), released statistics on the number of passengers who used the metro during Christmas Eve, December 24th.

Specifically, on Christmas Eve, 200 metro trains were in service, carrying 90,384 passengers, with an average of 411 passengers per train.

According to the plan and schedule set by the HCMC Department of Transportation, the first metro line was expected to serve approximately 40,000 passengers per day. However, on Christmas Eve, the number of passengers served was double the daily expected figure.

Station staff were on hand to ensure passengers’ safe journeys.

HURC1 stated that the high demand for transportation during Christmas was as expected, and the company had previously requested permission from the HCMC Department of Transportation to increase capacity and extend service by 30 minutes to accommodate the needs of travelers.

HURC1 adjusted the train schedule to maintain a 12-minute interval during regular hours and an 8-minute interval during peak hours. Additionally, they further reduced the interval to 8 minutes from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm and to 10 minutes from 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm during the peak evening hours.

“The number of trains and the interval between them are adjusted flexibly to meet the transportation needs of passengers using the first metro line,” said the operator.
