According to the provincial People’s Committee of Ca Mau, the province has recently approved a plan aligned with Vietnam’s National Energy Development Strategy, with ambitious goals for the renewable energy sector. Notably, Ca Mau aims to become the renewable energy hub of the Mekong Delta region and a leading exporter of renewable energy in Vietnam by 2030.

By 2030, the province targets to provide a substantial increase in power supply to the region, with additional project sources totaling approximately 960MW of wind power, 24MW of biomass power, 16MW of waste-to-energy, and 15MW of rooftop solar power. The transmission grid will be developed to integrate these new sources and efficiently distribute electricity to load centers.

To achieve these goals, Ca Mau will prioritize the unlimited development of renewable energy sources for export and the production of new energy forms such as hydrogen and green ammonia. By 2031, the province aims to export 2,000MW of renewable energy, scaling up to 3,000MW by 2035 and an impressive 5,000MW by 2040. Additionally, they will focus on developing renewable energy sources that do not feed into the grid, targeting the production of approximately 86,248 tons of hydrogen per year to serve domestic needs and exports.

Ca Mau will also implement energy conservation programs, aiming for the most efficient use of energy with a 7% energy saving target by 2030 and 14% by 2045. In the short term, the province will coordinate with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group to ensure the timely completion of the Khanh My-Dam Doi gas field project by the second quarter of 2027, providing gas to the Ca Mau gas-power-fertilizer cluster. They will also prioritize inviting investment in a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) system with a capacity of approximately 1-3 million tons of LNG per year during 2026-2030 to supply gas to consumers in the Ca Mau area.

Currently, Ca Mau has 16 approved wind power projects with a total capacity of 1,000 MW. In addition, there are 41 new projects in the pipeline, including 29 onshore, nearshore, and offshore wind power projects (totaling 7,712 MW) and 10 gas power and other energy projects (totaling 11,934 MW).
