This special energy project is led by EVNNPT as the investor, with SPMB managing the project, and the Electricity Transmission Corporation 4 operating it, according to Baochinhphu.vn.
The 500kV double-circuit power line originates at the 500kV distribution yard pillar of the Nhon Trach 4 Power Plant and terminates by connecting to the existing Phu My-Nha Be 500kV power line between pillars 74 and 75.
This critical power line is the sole connection enabling the Nhon Trach 4 Power Plant, with a capacity of over 800MW, to feed electricity into the National Power System. The operation of these thermal power plants will enhance energy security and increase local tax revenue. The project’s completion is expected to ensure a stable power supply in southern provinces from 2025 onwards.
The Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Power Plants are invested by the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group with a total investment of $1.4 billion. Together, they offer a capacity of 1,624MW and are expected to generate between 9 and 12 billion kWh of electricity annually. These are the first thermal power plants in Vietnam to utilize liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel.
Previously, to facilitate experimental power transmission and load relief for the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Power Plants, EVNNPT reported to the authorities for the approval of a temporary 220kV power line connecting Nhon Trach 3 – Nhon Trach 1,2 – Bau Sen, which is part of the Nhon Trach 3 Power Plant – Long Thanh 500kV transformer station project. On May 15, 2024, the project was energized, ensuring reverse power supply and successful experimental power generation for the Nhon Trach 3 Power Plant.
