At the signing ceremony of strategic cooperation MoUs between Vietnam SuperPortâ„¢ logistics port, the Institute for Transport Development Strategy, and China Railway 16 Vietnam Company Limited (a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited) on January 7, 2025, Dr. Yap Kwong Weng, CEO of Vietnam SuperPortâ„¢, remarked that the construction of a new railway line connecting the northern provinces and cities of Vietnam and China, in particular, and Vietnam’s high-speed rail development plans, in general, present a significant opportunity for the growth of domestic ancillary businesses.

According to Dr. Yap, the upcoming expansion and upgrade of Vietnam’s railway system will boost the development of supply and ancillary services for this infrastructure. More businesses are expected to emerge due to the increasing demand for rail transportation once the infrastructure is upgraded in the near future. These enterprises will operate in various fields, including construction, maintenance of railway infrastructure, logistics, and transportation services.

Additionally, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Director of the Transport Department under the Ministry of Transport, stated that building an efficient transportation network, developing advanced logistics hubs, and adopting modern technologies are not only objectives but also urgent requirements to ensure the country’s competitiveness and sustainable development.

The representative from the Ministry of Transport emphasized the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China in numerous fields, particularly their strong potential in transport infrastructure development. The two countries have signed several important documents to promote infrastructure connectivity, enhance transport capacity, and facilitate cross-border trade, most recently, the MoU between the Ministry of Transport and the National Development and Reform Commission of China on strengthening Vietnam-China railway cooperation.

Accordingly, the standard-gauge connecting routes such as Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong, Lang Son – Hanoi, and Mong Cai – Ha Long – Hai Phong are crucial not only for enhancing cargo transport capacity but also for promoting economic development in border areas and regions.

Both sides will collaborate and research the development of new railway lines and stations connecting to Vietnam SuperPort to enhance logistics capacity.

With this cooperation, Vietnam SuperPortâ„¢ is positioned as the main cargo transshipment hub along the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong – Quang Ninh railway line, facilitating efficient and economical cargo transportation in Vietnam and across borders.

In addition to partnering with the Institute for Transport Development Strategy, Vietnam SuperPortâ„¢ also signed an MoU with China Railway 16 Vietnam Company Limited. The cooperation focuses on constructing a railway cargo terminal at Vietnam SuperPortâ„¢ and a connecting railway line to Vietnam’s national railway system, serving cross-border logistics and cargo transportation between Vietnam and China, as well as other countries in the region.
