According to a report released by the General Statistics Office on January 6, 2025, the total retail sales of goods and revenue from consumer services in the fourth quarter of 2024 increased by 9.3% compared to the same period last year.
For the full year 2024, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue rose by 9.0% from the previous year, meeting the target set in Resolution No. 01/NQ-CP by the Government.
The total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in December 2024, in current prices, was estimated at VND 570.7 trillion, up 1.9% from the previous month and 9.3% from a year earlier.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue, in current prices, was estimated at VND 1,686.1 trillion, up 5.9% from the previous quarter and 9.3% from the same period last year.
Specifically, retail goods revenue reached VND 1,290.5 trillion, up 5.7% from the previous quarter and 9.2% from a year earlier; revenue from accommodation and catering services stood at VND 191.1 trillion, up 2.8% and 11.3%, respectively; travel service revenue reached VND 16.4 trillion, down 0.4% but up 11.3%; and revenue from other services amounted to VND 188.1 trillion, up 11.1% and 8.2%, respectively.
In 2024, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in current prices was estimated at VND 6,391.0 trillion, up 9.0% from 2023 (a 9.4% increase). Excluding price factors, the growth rate was 5.9% in 2024 compared to 6.8% in 2023.
Compared to 2019 (pre-COVID-19), the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in 2024 rose by 29.4%. Retail goods revenue increased by 31.5%, while travel service revenue surged by 39.8%.
Retail goods revenue in 2024 was estimated at VND 4,921.7 trillion, accounting for 77.0% of the total and up 8.3% from the previous year. Notably, the group of foodstuff and foodstuff increased by 10.8%; household appliances, tools, and equipment by 3.6%; garments by 8.4%; means of transport (excluding cars) by 8.2%; and cultural and educational items by 6.0%.
Some localities with notable increases in retail goods revenue in 2024 compared to the previous year include Quang Ninh (9.7%), Hai Phong (9.6%), Can Tho (7.8%), Da Nang (7.2%), Hanoi (6.6%), and Ho Chi Minh City (5.2%).
Revenue from accommodation and catering services in 2024 was estimated at VND 733.9 trillion, accounting for 11.5% of the total and up 12.9% from 2023. Notable increases were seen in Khanh Hoa (16.7%), Can Tho (13.7%), Hanoi (11.7%), Ho Chi Minh City (10.5%), and Binh Duong (9.8%).
Travel service revenue in 2024 was estimated at VND 62.5 trillion, or 1.0% of the total, representing a 16.0% increase from the previous year. This growth was attributed to the proactive efforts of localities in promoting tourism and attracting domestic and international visitors.
International arrivals to Vietnam in December reached 1.75 million, up 27.4% from the previous year. Meanwhile, the number of Vietnamese citizens exiting the country reached 363,100, a 3.1% increase.
For the full year 2024, Vietnam welcomed nearly 17.6 million international arrivals, a 39.5% increase from 2023 and equivalent to 97.6% of pre-COVID-19 levels in 2019. The number of Vietnamese citizens exiting the country reached 5.3 million, a 5.5% increase.
Some localities with significant increases in revenue in 2024 compared to the previous year include Can Tho (33.7%), Quang Ninh (21.4%), Ho Chi Minh City (18.7%), Khanh Hoa (16.5%), Binh Duong (15.7%), and Hanoi (12.4%).
Revenue from other services in 2024 was estimated at VND 672.9 trillion, accounting for 10.5% of the total and up 9.0% from 2023. Some localities with notable increases include Dien Bien (17.8%), Dong Nai (15.4%), Nam Dinh (13.5%), Can Tho (12.0%), Hai Duong (9.2%), Hanoi (8.5%), Ho Chi Minh City (7.9%), while Hung Yen saw a decrease of 9.4%.
