At the “Conference on the Deployment of Party Building and Business Tasks in 2025” on January 6, Mr. Nguyen Canh Tinh, Secretary of the Party Committee and General Director of Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC), assessed that in 2024, the world situation continued to develop complicatedly and unpredictably; conflicts escalated in many regions; fuel prices, commodities, and freight rates fluctuated strongly; the economy and trade recovered slowly and unsteadily; global demand and investment declined; exchange rates and interest rates were unpredictable; natural disasters, climate change, energy security, food security, and cybersecurity became more complex.

VIMC’S PROFIT REACHED VND 4,940 BILLION

In this context, VIMC and its member companies proactively built scenarios and flexible and effective solutions to external fluctuations while overcoming limitations and focusing on recovering from the damage caused by Storm No. 3.

Overcoming all these obstacles, 2024 recorded very positive business results for VIMC. The Corporation’s revenue reached VND 24,813 billion, and its profit reached VND 4,940 billion. “The production and business results of the parent company in 2024 exceeded the targets for output, revenue, and profit compared to the plan approved by the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders in 2024,” Mr. Tinh emphasized.

According to the General Director of VIMC, this achievement resulted from the relentless efforts of the leadership team and the staff and workers of VIMC across ports and transport routes. With the goal of realizing the vision of becoming the number one maritime corporation in Vietnam by 2030 and making its mark on the international maritime map, the VIMC team has been determined and persistent in performing key tasks, exceeding all assigned tasks, and ensuring the goal of preserving and developing state capital.

Especially in 2024, VIMC was very successful in international cooperation, developing 10 new container service routes connecting Vietnam with Europe. The Corporation’s port system has received and provided services for all Top 10 shipping lines globally.

At the same time, VIMC implemented previously signed agreements with MSC Group (the second-largest container transport group in Switzerland) to establish a joint venture to operate two international container terminals (No.3 and No.4) belonging to the Hai Phong International Gateway Port project at Lach Huyen.

In addition, VIMC completed the signing of an agreement to establish a joint venture to invest in and build the Can Gio International Transhipment Port project. The Corporation also expedited the completion of packages, equipment installation, and preparation of procedures for the port’s opening announcement to ensure the project’s operation as scheduled for the investment project to build Container Terminal No.3 and No.4 at Hai Phong International Gateway Port – Lach Huyen.

Along with developing international transhipment ports to participate more deeply in the global transport chain, the Corporation established VIMC Container Transport JSC, establishing and opening container transport routes to Inner Asia and moving towards global transport routes.

On the other hand, the parent company, VIMC, completed the upgrade of the electronic office system, integrated intelligent reporting (BI), deployed the VIMC knowledge base system, and implemented a modern, centralized human resource management software system.

Member units implemented the customer relationship management (CRM) system in 15 units, applied the e-Port system and Auto Gate at the port block, the eDo electronic delivery order and automatic fuel control system in the sea transport block, and the warehouse management software system in logistics enterprises. In addition, they carried out the Kaizen Program and innovation activities.

NEW SOLUTIONS AND APPROACHES

Stepping into 2025, according to Mr. Tinh, the challenges will be greater than in 2024 due to the strong determination for innovation, requiring rapid and fundamental changes from the beginning of 2025. This is both a significant pressure and responsibility. At the same time, 2025 is a particularly important year for acceleration and breakthrough to the finish line.

Therefore, VIMC strives to achieve the highest goals and targets of the 2021-2025 production and business plan towards celebrating the 14th National Party Congress, a new era of national prosperity, and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam Maritime Corporation.

VIMC will focus on six strategic goals.

First, continue to promote sustainable growth in core businesses, determined to maintain and develop the market and market share, and simultaneously seek and create new growth momentum based on the ecosystem of ports – maritime transport – logistics.

Second, design and deliver excellent customer experiences, promote and spread the culture of “putting customers at the center” in all spaces and activities.

Third, complete and exceed the progress of investment development projects, especially key projects: berths No.3 and No.4 in Lach Huyen, Lien Chieu Port, Can Gio International Transhipment Port, and Lien Chieu Port project.

Fourth, build a foundation and regulations towards unification and synchronization of internal regulations, aiming for flexibility to promote sustainable growth.

Fifth, strengthen internal training and attract external talents to build a high-quality workforce.

Sixth, continue to reorganize the apparatus to be streamlined, effective, and efficient; promote substantive decentralization and empowerment and tighten discipline and improve the sense of responsibility of leaders.

“There must be pressure to create motivation, and it must start with the leaders to achieve results. In 2025, VIMC will continue to spread the spirit of innovation and creativity, starting with its leaders. We will continue to develop our fleet and solve the problem of cooperation with major shipping lines in the world. We need to find new solutions. Tasks that seem familiar will not succeed if we do them the old way, but we need to do them in a new way,” the leader of VIMC emphasized.
