The Government Office has just issued Document No. 248/VPCP-CN dated January 9, 2025, conveying the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on the investment plan for Con Dao Airport.
Specifically, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha agreed with the report and proposal of the People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province in Document No. 18960/UBND-VP dated December 20, 2024, regarding the investment plan for Con Dao Airport (the “Project”).
The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Transport and the People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province to study and develop the Master Plan for Con Dao Airport for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050, and to carry out the necessary steps in accordance with legal regulations. The Master Plan is expected to be submitted to the Prime Minister in the second quarter of 2025.
In Document No. 18960/UBND-VP dated December 20, 2024, the People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province proposed to study the planning and investment plan to upgrade and expand Con Dao Airport to meet international standards through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). They suggested a comprehensive investment approach, including the construction of airside and landside facilities, essential aviation infrastructure, and aviation service facilities, to accommodate large, wide-body aircraft such as the A320, A321, Airbus A350, and Boeing 787.
According to the Master Plan for the Development of the National Airport and Airfield System for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050, Con Dao Airport is planned to have a capacity of approximately 2 million passengers per year by 2030 and a vision to accommodate 3 million passengers per year by 2050. Currently, the runway and taxiways at Con Dao Airport are in a state of disrepair and have poor load-bearing capacity, as they were constructed in 2004. The 30-meter width of the runway does not meet the standards for code C aircraft operations and can only accommodate smaller aircraft such as the ATR72 and equivalent models (reduced payload Embraer E190/E195). |
