The first metro line in Ho Chi Minh City, with a total length of 19.7 km and comprising 14 stations, connects the city center to Thu Duc City. This line features the country’s first underground section and employs modern and advanced construction methods. The project was completed and commenced commercial operations on December 22, 2024, serving over 5 million passengers and receiving positive feedback from the public.
The project is funded by ODA from the Government of Japan and domestic counterpart funds, symbolizing the collaboration between Vietnam and Japan. It is designated as a key national project.
The inauguration ceremony was held solemnly with the attendance of city leaders and a large number of residents. Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, emphasized, “This event marks a significant step forward in modernizing the city’s public transport system, helping to reduce congestion, improve the quality of life, and boost the economic and social development of the city.”
The Chairman expressed gratitude to the Government, relevant ministries, and Japanese partners, especially the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), for their support in providing funds and technology transfer. He also called on the people to actively use and protect the metro line, contributing to building a more civilized and modern city.
