According to the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province, the coastal road project connecting the East-West Economic Corridor in Quang Tri province – Phase 1 is approximately 48km long and runs through Vinh Linh, Gio Linh, and Trieu Phong districts, and Dong Ha city. The project has a total investment of VND 2,060 billion and is expected to be completed between 2021 and 2026.
So far, 25km of the 48km route has been handed over; the remaining sections are expected to be handed over by 2025. The project has achieved VND 549 billion out of the total contract value of VND 1,616 billion, reaching 34% completion. Specifically, in terms of site clearance, Vinh Linh district has handed over 6.3km out of 23.06km, achieving 27% completion, with 16.76km remaining. Gio Linh district has handed over 9.26km out of 12.4km, achieving 75% completion, with 3.14km left.
One of the current challenges is the lack of approved and allocated funds, which has significantly impacted the progress of site clearance, resettlement area construction, and disbursement of central funds for construction.
Next, the provincial People’s Committee of Quang Tri approved the adjustment of the project duration for the coastal road section passing through Cua Tung and Cua Viet bridges, with Decision No. 2960/QD-UBND dated December 4, 2024. The project is expected to be completed by 2025, with a total investment of VND 600 billion. The section passing through the Cua Tung bridge area is 3.16km long, starting at the intersection with DT.574 road in Vinh Linh district and ending at the intersection with DT.576 Dong road in Gio Linh district.
As of now, Gio Linh district has cleared 0.86km of the route and completed the staking for site clearance. They are in the process of finalizing the geodetic measurements for nearly 100 land lots and the expected affected resettlement households.
Vinh Linh district has cleared 1.8km and also completed the staking for site clearance. They are working on finalizing geodetic measurements for 188 land lots, 14 residential lots, and the expected affected households.
It is anticipated that the Land Retrieval Notice will be issued before April 20, 2025. The inventory will be conducted after the Land Retrieval Notice is issued by the districts in April 2025. The public announcement of compensation rates will take place in May 2025, followed by the approval of the compensation plan, support, and site handover in June 2025.
After inspecting the site and understanding the challenges of the projects, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee of Quang Tri, Le Duc Tien, directed the relevant sectors to promptly balance and allocate funds to ensure uninterrupted project implementation.

Vice Chairman Le Duc Tien requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to guide the localities in completing procedures, such as approving compensation plans, making payments, and handing over the site by April 2025. The localities need to expedite the construction of resettlement areas and finalize the compensation plans for state-owned forests and forest liquidation.
Vice Chairman Le Duc Tien also asked the related departments to closely coordinate with the provincial Project Management Board in reviewing and appraising the investment proposals to promptly submit them to the provincial People’s Council for approval. This will help expedite site clearance and ensure the project’s completion as per the approved schedule.
Regarding construction, Vice Chairman Le Duc Tien instructed the contractors to take advantage of favorable weather conditions and mobilize equipment and manpower as per the signed contracts to ensure the technical and aesthetic quality of the projects.
Currently, Quang Tri province is implementing 13 key projects with a significant impact on socio-economic development and regional connectivity.
Notably, the My Thuy Port Area project has a total investment of over VND 14,000 billion. It plays a strategic role in developing the marine economy and boosting logistics and import-export activities in the region.
