The methods for academic success have evolved, according to the Chairman of IPPG. In the past, memorization was often the key to academic success.

“Back in my day, I used to memorize entire books. If you could recite what the teacher asked, you would pass. But times have changed. Learning today requires critical thinking, creativity, and self-development. This is your era, and it’s no longer the era of bookworms,” he said.

Mr. Johnathan Hanh Nguyen, Chairman of the Inter-Pacific Group (IPPG)

The 74-year-old entrepreneur shared his observations about the current education system, noting that while students today have more advantages, they also face higher expectations regarding critical thinking and self-directed learning.

He emphasized that the four years of university life pass quickly, and students should seize the opportunity to gain life experiences while ensuring they spend at least 80% of their time in the classroom. He stressed the importance of prioritizing education, even while enjoying coffee and leisure activities.

“Students should attend at least 80% of their classes. What the teachers say may not sink in the first time, but it will by the second or third time, and it will stay with you,” he shared. Mr. Nguyen believes that Vietnamese intellect is on par with anyone globally; it’s just a matter of utilizing it effectively. However, he underscores the importance of education as the foundation for such endeavors.
