On May 8, 2025, the Market Management Bureau of Thanh Hoa province announced that they had just destroyed nearly five tons of contaminated food, including untreated buffalo and cowhide of unknown origin.
Earlier, on May 6, during a traffic patrol on National Highway 47B, a task force from Police Traffic Team 2 of the Traffic Police Department (Thanh Hoa Provincial Police) intercepted a truck with the license plate number 36C-453.73, which showed signs of violation. The truck was traveling from Nong Cong to Trieu Son.
Upon inspection, the authorities discovered a total of 4,915 kg of untreated buffalo and cowhide without documents proving their legal origin. The owner of the goods was identified as Mr. Le Van Thao, a resident of Hoang Giang commune, Nong Cong district, who was also the vehicle owner.
Given the signs of violation in trading goods that did not ensure food hygiene and safety, the Traffic Police Department coordinated with the Market Management Bureau of Thanh Hoa province to make a record, temporarily confiscate the goods, and conduct an investigation.

After verification, on May 8, 2025, the authorities held a meeting, consolidated the dossier, and issued an administrative fine of VND 8.5 million to Mr. Le Van Thao. All the contaminated food was destroyed by burial, lime powder sprinkling, and soil compaction as prescribed.
This case is one of many discoveries made as the authorities of Thanh Hoa province intensify inspections and crackdowns on violations related to counterfeit and substandard goods, particularly contaminated food.
According to statistics, from 2024 up to now, Thanh Hoa province has established 1,834 inter-sectoral and specialized inspection teams, inspecting 41,079 establishments. The results showed that 1,158 establishments violated the regulations, of which 806 were administratively fined with a total amount of over VND 2.4 billion.
In the coming time, the authorities will continue to strengthen regular and unexpected inspection campaigns, especially in high-risk areas such as food and pharmaceuticals. Simultaneously, they will implement QR codes, RFID technology, and blockchain to enhance transparency and product traceability, thereby protecting consumers’ health.
