At around 10 am on May 23, Hanoi experienced heavy rain and strong gusts of wind. During this time, at the Yen Nghia station of the Cat Linh-Ha Dong train line, rainwater flowed down onto a stationary train and splashed across the station floor.

To avoid slipping and getting wet, passengers seemed to steer clear of this area.

On the same day, a leader from Hanoi Metro confirmed and attributed the damage to the station’s roof to Typhoon Yagi, which occurred in September 2024.

According to the leader, the company has inspected, documented, and proposed repair plans for the infrastructure damage caused by Typhoon Yagi. They have also developed maintenance plans and submitted them to the appropriate authorities for approval.

In the meantime, Hanoi Metro continues to implement measures to ensure passenger safety and cleanliness at Yen Nghia station, especially during heavy rainfall as experienced over the past two days. These measures include increasing safety personnel, providing continuous safety warnings and guidance to passengers, and requesting additional cleaning staff to keep the station floors dry and minimize slipping hazards.

However, the delay in repairing infrastructure damage caused by natural disasters has negatively impacted passengers and train operations on Line 2A (Yen Nghia Station). This delay is due to the company’s slow response and lack of coordination with relevant units and reporting to authorities for timely and effective solutions.

To promptly address the issue, the company has agreed with relevant agencies to immediately repair certain items: replacing the station’s roof, fixing damaged stairs, and repairing broken glass walls along the Cat Linh-Ha Dong elevated railway line.

For items requiring large amounts of capital and approval from higher authorities, Hanoi Metro is actively coordinating with the managing agency to implement them as soon as possible.
