In a recent initiative, over 400 volunteers gathered at Nghi Son Bay to embark on the 2025 Beach Cleanup Campaign, marking the launch of the “Green Nghi Son” initiative. This joint endeavor is spearheaded by the Management Board of Nghi Son Economic Zone and Industrial Zones, in collaboration with Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Limited Liability Company.
Within just two hours, nearly 30 tons of coastal waste were collected. The campaign witnessed the enthusiastic participation of the Provincial Border Guard, Nghi Son Port Border Gate Garrison, Nghi Son commune authorities, and 31 businesses operating inside and outside the economic zone.
Going beyond waste collection, the participating enterprises demonstrated their commitment to social responsibility by presenting support packages worth nearly VND 200 million to Nghi Son commune. This included garbage carts, trash bins, and protective gear, marking the first steps toward establishing a tripartite collaboration between businesses, the government, and the community to foster a local green industrial ecosystem.
AN INNOVATIVE INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT MODEL WITH PEOPLE AND NATURE AT ITS CORE
According to Mr. Bui Tuan Tu, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Nghi Son Economic Zone and Industrial Zones in Thanh Hoa province, the “Green Nghi Son” initiative reflects a novel development mindset. It emphasizes that growth is not solely measured by production indices or investment scale but is intrinsically linked to environmental stewardship and fostering sustainable livelihoods for the local populace.
“Sustainable industrial development cannot be dissociated from environmental and community responsibilities,” asserted Mr. Tuan Tu. “This initiative aims to establish the first multilateral cooperation model in the economic zone, jointly striving for greener production practices, heightened community awareness, and the establishment of a transparent and effective environmental monitoring system.”

As one of the two pioneering entities behind this initiative, Mr. Yamato Kazutaka, General Director of Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical LLC, underscored, “Production development must go hand in hand with environmental accountability. Today’s campaign is not merely an isolated action but the commencement of a protracted journey where environmental protection becomes a core tenet of our green development and responsible production strategy.”
ENTERPRISES TRANSFORM: FROM ECONOMIC STRATEGIES TO SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
A salient feature of this campaign was the enthusiastic participation of enterprises within the Nghi Son Economic Zone. Out of the 31 businesses that embraced this initiative, 29 provided direct sponsorship, ranging from large conglomerates to small and medium-sized enterprises. Notable contributors include Idemitsu Vietnam Limited Liability Company, PTSC Thanh Hoa Technical Services Joint Stock Company, Nghi Son Environment Joint Stock Company, Thanh Thien Technology Joint Stock Company, and Nghi Son Cement Company…

This enthusiastic response not only showcases their commitment to environmental protection but also indicates a paradigm shift in development thinking. Many enterprises are now integrating sustainable development goals into their long-term strategic agendas. Collaborating with the government and the community in environmental conservation endeavors is no longer an exception but a strategic choice to enhance brand value, reputation, and competitive advantage.
NOT JUST A CAMPAIGN, BUT AN EMBODIMENT OF LASTING VALUES
According to the Management Board of Nghi Son Economic Zone, the beach cleanup campaign is merely one facet of the long-term action agenda encompassed within the “Green Nghi Son” program. Moving forward, this initiative will introduce a host of practical solutions, including source waste segregation, domestic waste treatment, coastal afforestation, environmental awareness campaigns, and the establishment of a modern environmental monitoring system within the industrial zone.
The long-term vision of this initiative aspires to nurture a “culture of green enterprises” where businesses not only focus on production but also prioritize technological innovation, emission reduction, and transparency in environmental data disclosure, adhering to international ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards.

“We believe that the small actions of today will forge significant changes for tomorrow,” shared a representative from Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Limited Liability Company. “It signifies a transformation in industrial development, from mere growth to responsible growth.”
