APEC 2027 is a significant event to introduce a dynamic, innovative, and integrated Vietnam to the world. Phu Quoc will be the destination welcoming international friends. This journey marks the beginning of great expectations and the highest sense of responsibility, said Mr. Nhan.

The provincial leader also committed to standing side by side with the investor throughout the implementation process, ensuring that the project is completed on schedule and meets the quality standards set by the government, in time for the APEC 2027 event.

The company, for its part, affirmed that it would apply the highest standards of quality, progress, and technology to build a modern, smart, and environmentally friendly airport, worthy of being the international gateway to the pearl island of Phu Quoc.

Expanding Phu Quoc Airport in Preparation for APEC 2027

Hosting the APEC 2027 Summit in Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang province, is a crucial national political task, linked to the sustainable development of Phu Quoc, affirming Vietnam’s and Phu Quoc’s position on the world stage. Therefore, expanding Phu Quoc International Airport is of utmost importance, providing a foundation for early investment and timely operation to serve the flights of national leaders attending the APEC 2027 Summit.

The highlight of Phu Quoc International Airport after the upgrade is the passenger terminal, which is designed based on the idea of a phoenix spreading its wings, symbolizing national prestige and pride.

The terminal will be equipped with the most modern operating technologies in the world, including check-in without going to the airport, automatic baggage sorting, and biometric identification technology, reducing the time for immigration procedures to 15-30 seconds per person…

Notably, Phu Quoc Airport will have two runways, with the existing runway extended to 3,500 meters and a new 3,300-meter runway constructed. The apron system will be expanded to over 100 parking positions, including 45 wide-body aircraft parking positions, including modern jet bridges, meeting the demands of international and domestic passenger service and operation.

Especially, a new VVIP terminal will be constructed at Phu Quoc International Airport, aiming to meet the standards for receiving the aircraft of national leaders attending the APEC summit. After APEC, the VVIP terminal will be utilized for international operations or aviation events.

The VVIP terminal is designed by Italian architect Marco Casamonti, the “father” of the iconic Kissing Bridge in Phu Quoc. The design of the terminal is inspired by the eagle ray fish, symbolizing freedom and grace in the ocean.

The designer of Phu Quoc International Airport is CPG Singapore, with the direct involvement of Vice President and Executive Designer Steven Thor, who has over 30 years of experience in architectural design.

With the simultaneous implementation of strategic projects, including the expansion plan of Phu Quoc International Airport to a capacity of 18 million passengers per year before APEC 2027, the island city is gradually asserting its position as a new center for economics, tourism, and international conferences in the region and the world. These projects will not only serve APEC 2027 but also provide a foundation for Phu Quoc to break through, attract investment, enhance competitiveness, and deeply integrate into the next phase.
