“Vietcombank Warns of SMS Phishing Scams and Gold Investment Fraud”
Vietcombank, one of Vietnam’s leading commercial joint-stock banks, has recently issued a warning to its customers regarding SMS phishing attempts. Fraudsters have been sending texts impersonating the Vietcombank brand, informing recipients about expiring reward points and providing gift redemption instructions. These messages contain suspicious links such as vietcomm.top, vieetcom.top, and others, which, when clicked, direct customers to a fake Vietcombank website.
On this fake website, customers are prompted to enter their personal and card details, including their OTP (One-Time Password), under the pretext of receiving cash back from their loyalty points. However, by providing this information, customers risk having their card details and OTP stolen, potentially leading to unauthorized transactions and financial loss.

This type of brand impersonation scam is not new, and both the authorities and Vietcombank have been actively warning the public about it. To protect themselves, customers should be aware that VCB Loyalty reward points cannot be converted into cash and can only be used for gift redemption. Moreover, Vietcombank emphasizes that customers should never disclose their card details and OTPs to anyone, as the bank will never ask for such sensitive information.
Additionally, customers are advised to refrain from accessing unfamiliar links or scanning unknown QR codes received via email, SMS, or social media. Vietcombank does not send messages containing links to its customers. Instead, customers are encouraged to obtain information only through official Vietcombank channels.
If customers have already entered their information on a fake website, they should immediately contact the bank to block their card and take necessary security measures. Besides SMS phishing, the State Bank and other authorities have also warned about a rise in scams involving the impersonation of gold trading companies. These scams are often sophisticated and well-organized, targeting customers’ funds in their bank accounts.
Banks are urging customers to be vigilant and aware of the signs of fraud. Fraudsters create fake websites, fan pages, and social media accounts that closely resemble those of reputable gold companies or licensed gold traders, aiming to confuse customers. They offer attractive discounts, promotions, and online gold trading opportunities with promises of high returns and periodic interest payments.
Customers are lured into providing their personal and bank account details, and in some cases, they receive fake winning notifications via messages or emails, requesting their information to claim non-existent prizes. The scammers may even impersonate family members, bank employees, or gold company staff, reaching out through phone calls, text messages, or social media to deceive unsuspecting individuals.
It is crucial for customers to remain cautious and vigilant, especially when dealing with unsolicited messages, calls, or online offers. By being aware of these scams and following the advice provided by Vietcombank and other official sources, customers can protect themselves from financial loss and ensure the security of their personal and financial information.
