On August 1st, leaders of Binh Duong Ward in Ho Chi Minh City shared that the local neighborhoods are currently designing and changing the names on welcome gates after the People’s Council of the ward passed a resolution to rename the neighborhoods following the administrative merger. Earlier, on July 31st, the People’s Council of Binh Duong Ward organized a ceremony to announce the resolution on recognizing the renaming of neighborhoods and decisions on neighborhood-level personnel matters. The photo shows the headquarter of Binh Duong Ward People’s Committee, located at the former headquarter of Hoa Phu Ward People’s Committee.

Binh Duong Ward announced the resolution recognizing the renaming of 17 out of 20 neighborhoods under its administration. Among them, 3 neighborhoods retained their original names due to uniqueness, while 17 others had to be renamed due to duplication after the merger and the establishment of the new Binh Duong Ward. The photo shows the welcome gate of Neighborhood 2 in the former Hoa Phu Ward, which will be renamed Hoa Phu 2 Neighborhood in Binh Duong Ward.

Neighborhood 5 in the former Hoa Phu Ward will be renamed Hoa Phu 5 Neighborhood in Binh Duong Ward.

Previously, the neighborhood names in the four former wards were numbered sequentially, with a few named after local landmarks. The photo shows Neighborhood 2 in the former Phu Tan Ward, which will be renamed Phu Tan 2 Neighborhood in Binh Duong Ward.

Following the merger of the four former wards of Hoa Phu, Phu Tan, Phu My, and Phu Chanh into the new Binh Duong Ward, the neighborhood names became repetitive, causing difficulties in geographical identification and administrative management.

Currently, after collecting opinions from local residents, the People’s Council of Binh Duong Ward decided to adjust the neighborhood names by attaching the former ward names before the sequential numbers. For example, Neighborhood 1 of the former Hoa Phu Ward will be renamed Hoa Phu 1 Neighborhood; Neighborhood 1 of the former Phu Chanh Ward will become Phu Chanh 1 Neighborhood, and so on.

Notably, in the former Phu Chanh Ward, there was one neighborhood not named sequentially, called Phu Tho Neighborhood. Since the name Phu Tho is identical to the name of another ward in the former Thu Dau Mot City, it has been renamed Phu Chanh Neighborhood to avoid confusion. The headquarter of Phu Tho Neighborhood in the former Phu Chanh Ward will be renamed Phu Chanh Neighborhood in Binh Duong Ward.

Additionally, in the former Phu Chanh Ward, there were three neighborhoods not named sequentially but were kept unchanged as they did not overlap with other localities. These neighborhoods are Phu Bung, Chanh Long, and Phu Trung.

Currently, Binh Duong Ward comprises 20 neighborhoods, 17 of which have been renamed. Specifically, the former Phu My Ward has 8 neighborhoods with new names, the former Phu Chanh Ward has 1, the former Phu Tan Ward has 3, and the former Hoa Phu Ward has 5. The headquarter of Neighborhood 8 in the former Phu My Ward will be renamed Phu My 8 Neighborhood in Binh Duong Ward.

The entrance to the former Phu My Ward People’s Committee, now known as Binh Duong Ward, is located on Huynh Van Luu Street.

Neighborhood 6 in the former Phu My Ward will be renamed Phu My 6 Neighborhood in Binh Duong Ward.

The welcome gate of the former Phu My Ward will be renamed Binh Duong Ward.

At present, the neighborhoods are designing and reconstructing the welcome gates with the new names.
According to observations, in addition to Binh Duong Ward, Thu Dau Mot Ward and Chanh Hiep Ward in Ho Chi Minh City have also renamed their neighborhoods. These new wards were formed by merging multiple former wards, and the neighborhood names were originally numbered sequentially. After the change, the neighborhood names will include the former ward names before the sequential numbers. For instance, the neighborhoods in the former Dinh Hoa Ward, now part of Chanh Hiep Ward, will have their names prefixed with “Dinh Hoa.”
