According to the Ministry of Construction, local authorities are actively finalizing procedures to commence construction on three key expressway projects simultaneously on August 19, 2025. These projects include Dau Giay-Tan Phu (Phase 1), Component Project 3 of Hanoi Capital’s Ring Road 4, and Component Project 1 of Gia Nghia-Chon Thanh, with a total length of over 302 kilometers.

It is expected that by August 19, 2025, the country will complete an additional 208 kilometers of main expressway routes.

The Dau Giay-Tan Phu Expressway is over 60 kilometers long and is developed through a public-private partnership (PPP). The total investment is estimated at VND 8,400 billion, with VND 7,100 billion coming from investors and the remainder from the state.

The Component Project 3 of Hanoi’s Ring Road 4 is more than 112 kilometers long and is initially invested in a scale of four lanes, with a total expected investment of up to VND 56,536 billion.

The third project, Gia Nghia-Chon Thanh, is approximately 124.13 kilometers long. In this phase, the project is invested with a complete scale of four expressway lanes, with a total investment of about VND 19,965 billion.

208 kilometers of expressways to be operational by August 19

Also, during this occasion, several expressway sections will be completed and put into operation, contributing to a total length of 2,476 kilometers of the national expressway network. Specifically, 208 kilometers of the main routes of the component projects will be opened to traffic, including:

– Vung Ang-Bung (55km)

– Van Ninh-Cam Lo (66km)

– The last 13 kilometers of Van Phong-Nha Trang

– Some sections of Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon (10/88km)

– Hoai Nhon-Quy Nhon (45/70km)

– Quy Nhon-Chi Thanh (20/62km)

Several other projects are planned to be completed by 2026, such as Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang (Component Project 1), Dong Dang-Tra Linh, Huu Nghi-Chi Lang, and the component projects of Khanh Hoa-Buon Ma Thuot Expressway. These projects are also being expedited, aiming for early completion, four to five months ahead of schedule, by the end of 2025.

Challenges posed by weather conditions and large construction volume

Despite generally positive progress, the Ministry of Construction also noted that some projects planned for completion in 2025 still face significant construction volumes and unfavorable weather conditions. This year’s early and prolonged rainy season could significantly impact progress without flexible construction measures and close supervision.

Particularly, projects such as Component Projects 3 and 5 of Ho Chi Minh City’s Ring Road 3, Bien Hoa-Vung Tau (Phase 1, a 16-kilometer section invested by Dong Nai), and Tuyen Quang-Ha Giang are identified as hotspots that require close monitoring.

In the first half of 2025, the construction output value of expressway projects nationwide reached over VND 66,500 billion, reflecting a significant effort in implementation.

5 projects previously commenced

Prior to August 19, investment procedures were completed for the commencement of five expressway projects with a total length of 271 kilometers, including:

– Hoa Binh-Moc Chau (Son La section, 32km)

– Ninh Binh-Hai Phong (61km PPP investment, 25km public investment)

– Ho Chi Minh City-Thu Dau Mot-Chon Thanh (53km)

– Bao Loc-Lien Khuong (74km)

– My An-Cao Lanh (26km)

The simultaneous commencement and operation of these expressways contribute to the goal of putting into operation 3,000 kilometers of expressways in 2025, promoting socio-economic development and stronger regional connectivity in the coming period.
