Regarding the allegations against CP Vietnam for selling diseased pork, on August 4, Mr. Lieu Quy Ngan (40 years old, from My Xuyen town, My Xuyen district, Soc Trang province (formerly known as Can Tho city)) stated that he had received a summons from the Investigation Police Agency of Can Tho city.

According to the summons, Mr. Ngan is required to present himself at the Investigation Agency on the morning of August 7, regarding Mr. Ngo Tuan An’s accusation of Mr. Ngan exploiting democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of CP Vietnam.

However, Mr. Ngan expressed his inability to comply due to his deteriorating health condition. He is in the advanced stages of heart and kidney failure, which makes traveling and regular activities challenging.

“Due to my critical health condition, which includes end-stage heart and kidney failure, I am physically unable to comply with your summons. If your agency has any questions, I am willing to answer them truthfully,” Mr. Ngan stated.

Prior to this, on May 30, social media platforms circulated a post from an account named “Jonny Lieu,” which was later confirmed to be that of Mr. Lieu Quy Ngan, a former CP Vietnam employee in charge of pork sales in the processing sector.

Mr. Ngan alleged that during his employment at the CP Fresh Shop in My Xuyen, he observed irregularities in the company’s pork business operations. He accused CP Vietnam of mixing diseased pork and chicken, and even meat with a putrid odor and abscesses, into their supply chain after minimal processing.

On the same day, CP Vietnam issued a statement to its customers and partners, refuting Mr. Ngan’s allegations. In the afternoon, a joint inspection team from Soc Trang province inspected the My Xuyen Fresh Shop.

On June 2, initial inspection results revealed that three out of four CP Vietnam stores in Soc Trang were using expired food safety certificates. On June 4, Mr. Lieu Quy Ngan met with the police regarding the case, and a notice of accusation receipt and a statement regarding the accusation were issued.

On June 6, Mr. Ngan posted additional images of abnormal pigs that had been sent for slaughter in Chau Thanh, Hau Giang, on his personal Facebook page. The images were captured on March 24, 2022, at 2:50 am, two days before the previously provided image.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment jointly intervened to investigate and handle the case.

On June 29, after a thorough investigation, the Soc Trang Provincial Police Investigation Agency concluded that there were no signs of criminal activity related to food safety violations by CP Vietnam, as stipulated in Article 157, Clause 2 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Concurrently, the Investigation Agency issued Decision No. 6392 on June 27, 2025, stating that no criminal case would be initiated regarding food safety violations in My Xuyen, Soc Trang.

Thus, the accusations against CP Vietnam concerning legal violations related to food safety have been deemed baseless and without legal grounds.
