Hòa Phát harnesses cutting-edge closed-loop technology, optimizing production and utilizing waste heat and gases generated during steelmaking to enhance power generation efficiency and reduce production costs.
The self-generated electricity output is equivalent to nearly VND 3,500 billion at current electricity prices.
The Hoa Phat Dung Quat Integrated Steel Complex is equipped with state-of-the-art technology from G7 countries, featuring a closed-loop system that optimizes production. This system capitalizes on waste heat and gases produced during steelmaking, enhancing power generation efficiency and reducing production costs.
Enhancing Power Generation Efficiency, Reducing Production Costs
Hoa Phat recaptures excess heat from coke production and utilizes waste gases from steelmaking as fuel for boilers to generate electricity. This power generation technology boosts the competitiveness of our products, contributes to environmental protection, and reduces CO2 emissions.
As of June 30, 2025, the power plant at the Hoa Phat Dung Quat Integrated Steel Complex has generated 1.45 billion kWh of electricity, meeting over 90% of the complex’s power requirements.
Since July 2019, just a year after installing the first generator, the power plant has been meeting the electricity demands of the entire integrated steel complex. The cumulative electricity output has been increasing rapidly year after year, reaching 5 billion kWh in September 2022 and 10 billion kWh in February 2025.
With the development of the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project, the company continues to invest in a second waste heat power generation line. The Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Power Plant has a capacity of 240MW, consisting of four 60MW generators, bringing the total power generation capacity of the entire complex to 600MW. This ensures a stable supply of electricity, covering 90% of the power requirements for steel production at both the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 1 and Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 projects.

The total power generation capacity of the entire complex reaches 600MW, ensuring a stable supply of electricity for steel production at both Hoa Phat Dung Quat 1 and Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 projects.
Employing a similar approach, the Hoa Phat Hai Duong Steel Complex generated 358 million kWh of electricity for self-consumption in the first half of this year. Recently, Hoa Phat Hai Duong Steel invested in refurbishing the synchronization cabinets of three turbine generators to ensure stable power generation when connected to the national grid.
