Ho Chi Minh City experienced widespread thunderstorms and heavy rain during the evening of the 5th of August. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet, two prominent airlines, issued statements regarding potential disruptions to their flight schedules at Tan Son Nhat Airport due to these adverse weather conditions. Delays and adjustments to flight plans were necessary to prioritize passenger safety.
Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet informed passengers of potential changes to their flight schedules and advised them to check flight information and weather updates before heading to the airport. The airlines expressed their regret for any inconvenience caused by these unforeseen circumstances, assuring passengers that their safety remains the utmost priority, despite the challenges posed by unpredictable weather.
The thunderstorm not only affected airport operations but also caused flash floods in several parts of Ho Chi Minh City, making it challenging for vehicles to navigate through the streets during the evening rush hour. The rain started around 5 PM and gradually intensified, with heavy downpours continuing until 6:30 PM in many wards and communes. The sudden change in weather caught many residents off guard, as the city had been experiencing hot and sunny weather earlier in the day.

Airlines sought passengers’ understanding and emphasized the unforeseen nature of the situation.
The airlines acknowledged the challenges posed by such situations, including additional costs and operational complexities. However, they reassured passengers that their safety always comes first. Vietnam Airlines, in particular, expressed regret for any changes to flight plans due to weather conditions, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring the absolute safety of every flight.
