VinFast has officially inaugurated its electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant in the SIPCOT Industrial Park, Thoothukudi city, Tamil Nadu, India, on August 4th, marking a new step in its global expansion journey.
This is VinFast’s third operational plant and fifth global manufacturing project. It is also the first facility inaugurated outside of Vietnam, demonstrating the brand’s global vision and large-scale project deployment capabilities.

VinFast’s EV assembly plant in India is officially inaugurated. The company plans to invest $2 billion in the project over five years.
The plant spans an area of 160 hectares
and features internationally-certified production lines with a high level of automation and modern technology. The complex includes various workshops such as the Body Shop, Paint Shop, Assembly Shop, Quality Inspection Center, and Logistics Warehouse. The project also includes a cluster of auxiliary factories for local contractors, expected to expand in the coming years.
At full capacity, the plant is expected to create direct employment for 3,000-3,500 local workers
and thousands of indirect jobs in the supply ecosystem, contributing to the economic and social development of Tamil Nadu. This will position the region as a manufacturing hub in India and potentially elevate it to become the electric vehicle capital of South Asia in the near future.
In the initial phase, VinFast Tamil Nadu will focus on assembling two premium electric vehicle models, the VF 7 (C-segment) and VF 6 (B-segment), with an initial capacity of
50,000 units per year, expandable to 150,000 units to meet market demand.
With the inauguration of the Tamil Nadu plant, VinFast takes a significant step towards its goal of achieving
a sales volume of 200,000 vehicles by 2025 and a production capacity of 1 million units per year by 2030.
The Electric Vehicle Hub of South Asia
Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, General Director of VinFast Asia, emphasized: “The VinFast Tamil Nadu plant is a strategic milestone that reaffirms our long-term commitment to the Indian market and lays a solid foundation for our sustainable growth. This facility will enable us to deliver high-quality electric vehicles at competitive prices to Indian consumers.”
“In the coming years, we aim to expand the plant’s capacity to meet the growing demand and develop it into VinFast’s largest export hub for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. We have already received initial orders from several countries in these regions. With the support of the Tamil Nadu government, we are working to transform this region into the ‘Electric Vehicle Hub of South Asia,’ serving both the vibrant domestic market and our expansion strategy,” he added.
VinFast shared that the Tamil Nadu plant not only expands the company’s global production capacity but also significantly contributes to India’s green industrial development goals. The plant will prioritize partnerships with domestic suppliers, promoting localization of the supply chain, technology transfer, and enhancing local workforce capabilities.
Since its entry into India, VinFast has aggressively pursued a comprehensive electric vehicle ecosystem model, encompassing assembly, distribution, after-sales service, and recycling. The inauguration of the 160-hectare plant in Tamil Nadu is a strategic piece in completing this value chain.
In parallel, VinFast has collaborated with multiple dealer partners in key cities and joined forces with companies like RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure to build a digital service and customer care ecosystem.
VinFast is also working with BatX Energies to recycle and reuse batteries, moving towards a circular production model and sustainable development in the world’s third-largest automotive market.
