The VNPT Trans-National Cable (VSTN) is not just a pioneering telecommunications infrastructure but also a testament to the country’s strategic vision for proactive connectivity, increased flexibility, security, and resilience in the face of any incidents. This project also marks a significant transformation for VNPT in taking control of a multi-modal international connectivity infrastructure: from land, sea to airspace.
VSTN: Robust Infrastructure – Proactive Operations – Absolute Security
The VSTN cable line is of special significance, both technically and strategically. With a total length of approximately 3,900 km, the VSTN line passes through five countries: Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Built entirely on land, it directly connects VNPT’s technical center in Danang to leading regional data centers such as IDC Telehouse (Thailand), MY01 Cyberjaya, Equinix JH01 Johor Bahru (Malaysia), Equinix, and Global Switch (Singapore). VSTN clearly asserts Vietnam’s independence from total reliance on undersea cables.
VNPT’s direct control of the entire line from Vietnam to Singapore ensures not only independent operational capabilities but also quick response to any incident. Amid frequent and prolonged undersea cable incidents affecting internet service quality and international connectivity, VSTN serves as a vital backup, strategically supplementing existing undersea cables and enhancing the stability, proactiveness, and security of the national telecommunications infrastructure.
VSTN employs modern DWDM wavelength-division multiplexing transmission equipment, one of the most advanced technologies available today. Each wavelength can transmit a minimum capacity of 300 Gbps, with a total line design capacity of up to 4 Tbps, easily upgradable to 12 Tbps or higher. This enables VSTN to meet current demands and be future-proof for imminent significant developments.
VSTN is not just a technical advancement but also a strategic move for Vietnam to break free from passivity and towards complete ownership of its national telecommunications infrastructure, safeguarding data security and ensuring seamless and secure information transmission under all circumstances.
From Land to Airspace, VNPT Masters the Multi-Modal Transmission Ecosystem

The opening ceremony included a memorandum of understanding signing for VSTN capacity utilization between VNPT and its partners.
With the operationalization of the VSTN cable line, the VNPT Group is gradually completing its multi-modal transmission ecosystem: from land, sea to airspace. This comprehensive combination ensures VNPT’s extensive coverage, robust transmission capacity, and enhanced quality and reliability of domestic telecommunications services.
By operating the VSTN line, VNPT not only adds a new transmission route but also confirms that Vietnamese professionals can master complex, safe, and state-of-the-art technology infrastructure. VSTN contributes significantly to enhancing telecommunications connectivity and plays a pivotal role in promoting regional cooperation in the digital age, where data is considered a new resource, and cross-border connectivity is key to ASEAN economic integration. With VSTN, Vietnam has asserted its position as a regional data hub, establishing a seamless digital corridor between Indochina and Southeast Asia.
