VNPT Group Officially Launches VSTN Land Cable Route

VNPT Group launches the VSTN land cable route, the first direct connection from Vietnam to Singapore via terrestrial infrastructure.

On August 4, 2025, VNPT Group officially commenced operations of the VSTN cable route, the first land cable directly connecting Vietnam to Singapore. The group highlighted the technical and strategic significance of the VSTN project, which spans approximately 3,900 km across five countries: Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Built entirely on land, the VSTN cable connects VNPT’s technical center in Da Nang to leading regional data centers, including IDC Telehouse (Thailand), MY01 Cyberjaya, Equinix JH01 Johor Bahru (Malaysia), Equinix, and Global Switch (Singapore). This landmark achievement signifies Vietnam’s independence from sole reliance on submarine cables.

VSTN employs advanced DWDM wavelength-division multiplexing transmission equipment, one of the most modern technologies available. Each wavelength can carry a minimum capacity of 300 Gbps, with the entire route designed to support up to 4 Tbps and easy upgrades to 12 Tbps or higher.

“VNPT’s direct control of the entire route from Vietnam to Singapore ensures independent operation and quick response to any incidents. With frequent and prolonged submarine cable issues affecting internet and international connection quality, VSTN serves as a vital backup, strategically complementing existing submarine cables and enhancing the stability, autonomy, and security of Vietnam’s telecommunications infrastructure,” the group representative added.

At the inauguration ceremony, the Minister of Science and Technology, Nguyen Manh Hung, shared that in nearly 30 years, Vietnam has not had a 100% Vietnamese-owned international cable. He applauded VNPT’s spirit of initiative in rapidly deploying the first international land cable fully invested in by a Vietnamese company and expressed his hope for continued investment in similar projects by Vietnamese telecom operators.

Currently, VNPT operates four major international submarine cable systems: AAG, APG, AAE-1, and the recently completed SJC-2, totaling over 65,000 km in length. VNPT is also the first and only Vietnamese enterprise to own and operate two telecommunications satellites, Vinasat-1 and Vinasat-2.

With the launch of the VSTN cable route, VNPT is steadily advancing its ecosystem of multimodal transmission infrastructure, encompassing land, sea, and space. This comprehensive approach not only ensures extensive coverage and robust transmission capabilities but also enhances the quality and reliability of domestic telecommunications services.
