The Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon Expressway project is 88 km long, with 60.3 km in Quang Ngai province and 27.7 km in Gia Lai province. With a total investment of over VND 20,000 billion, this is the largest investment project in the North-South Expressway East and the fourth longest among the 23 sub-projects.

Furthermore, this project has the most mountain tunnels with 3 tunnels measuring 610, 700, and 3,200 meters in length, respectively. Tunnel No. 3 is the longest newly constructed tunnel in the entire route, second only to the Hai Van and Deo Ca tunnels.

In the first phase, the Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon Expressway is designed with four lanes and a speed limit of 80 km/h. The project is invested by Project Management Unit 2 and constructed by Deo Ca Group. According to the plan, the entire route will be completed by August 2026.

However, the contractor has already asphalted 70 km and is striving to substantially complete the road before September 30. Tunnel No. 3 is expected to be finished by December 2025, almost a year ahead of schedule.

To achieve this goal, there are currently nearly 50 construction sites along the route, employing over 3,100 engineers and workers, along with 1,150 modern equipment. The realized value of the project has reached approximately VND 9,750 billion, equivalent to 73% of the total investment.

In addition to mobilizing thousands of workers and equipment, the contractor consortium also organizes multiple construction sites during the day and night, especially at large intersections, complex road sections, or items that need to be urgently completed.

When night falls, the headlights from road rollers, bulldozers, and concrete mixers cut through the darkness, transforming the area into a brightly lit, bustling construction site.

Mr. Truong Van Vy, a technical field engineer for the XL1 contract package, shared that the workers often work until midnight. “Night construction is cooler, but visibility is limited, and it’s easy to become complacent. Aside from ensuring progress, we always prioritize providing full protection for our workers,” said Mr. Vy.

Additionally, at the construction site of the right tube of Tunnel No. 3, groups of workers take turns working in 3 shifts and 4 teams around the clock. A representative of Deo Ca Group shared that the right tube (North-South direction) has been excavated ahead of schedule by 6 months.

Mr. Dang Tuan, a worker in charge of formwork construction for the tunnel wall, shared, “Whether it’s a regular day or a holiday, we are always present at the construction site, ready to work night shifts. Night work requires a high level of concentration, as even a small mistake can affect the entire section. It’s tiring, but we all try our best every day, proud to contribute to building a vital transportation route for the country.”

Tunnel No. 3 is considered the most challenging item in the project due to complex geology; some sections have soft rock like clay, prone to landslides, requiring extreme caution during drilling and blasting. There were times when the excavation speed decreased from 10 m/day to only 2-3 m/day.

Currently, workers are reinforcing and treating the foundation before proceeding with the upper pavement layers. The Deo Ca Group’s leadership shared: Taking advantage of the favorable weather, the unit increases manpower, equipment, and machinery for day and night construction to accelerate progress. Items such as embankment, asphalt pavement, and bridge construction are prioritized to avoid interruptions due to unfavorable weather conditions.

The Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon Expressway has 77 bridges, and currently, the substructure work, beam launching, and bridge deck construction are ongoing.

Not only the Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon Expressway but also the 12 sub-projects of the North-South Expressway East are being expedited to ensure the opening of the entire route on December 31, 2025. By then, the entire route, stretching over 2,000 km from Lang Son to Ca Mau, will be connected. Cars will be able to travel continuously across the country within approximately 24 hours. This will boost trade, enhance tourism, reduce logistics costs, and provide a significant boost to the real estate market.

The construction of this route will serve to alleviate congestion on the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway, providing a much-needed alternative route and improving the overall traffic flow in the region.

The Rise of the Southern Metropolis: Satellite Cities and Infrastructure Take Off
As urban decentralization gains momentum and central land resources deplete, the southern region of Ho Chi Minh City is emerging as a “golden destination” for real estate investors. Benefiting from the infrastructure boost and integrated urban planning, this once-peripheral area is now transforming into a thriving satellite city, offering both residential and investment opportunities ahead of its upcoming breakthrough in the new development cycle.
