In November 2023, Indian billionaire Gautam Shantilal Adani met with the Chairman of Vingroup Group, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong, to discuss potential business opportunities between India and Vietnam.

The Indian billionaire was inspired by Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong‘s impressive entrepreneurial journey – a visionary leader. Mr. Vuong has come a long way from instant noodles to producing a range of electric vehicles and advanced battery solutions for the global shift towards green mobility. And all of this was achieved in record time!

Mr. Adani’s Adani Group has repeatedly expressed its commitment to investing strategically and long-term in Vietnam, with a capital investment of up to USD 10 billion.

Mr. Gautam Adani (born in 1962) is one of India’s most famous self-made billionaires, with a net worth of over USD 61.6 billion, according to Forbes.

In addition to their strengths in ports, airports, logistics, energy, and digital technology, the Adani Group is expanding into the electric vehicle market, including plans for collaboration with VinFast. Since 2024, the two parties have been negotiating to form a joint venture with the MEIL Group to develop electric vehicle projects in the world’s second most populous country.

The Adani Group also has close ties to the automotive industry, especially in the field of electric vehicles (EVs) and clean transportation.

Specifically, in terms of EV charging infrastructure development, Adani Total Energies E-Mobility Limited, a subsidiary of the group, signed an agreement with MG Motor India to build and strengthen the nationwide network of EV charging stations. This indicates their involvement in the EV ecosystem, specifically in infrastructure rather than vehicle manufacturing.

Additionally, Adani Enterprises has developed and launched India’s first heavy-duty hydrogen fuel cell electric truck. These trucks are used to replace diesel trucks in the group’s mining and internal logistics operations and are not commercially available in the market.

Furthermore, in early 2022, an Adani family company registered the “Adani” trademark for the vehicle category, including “road, air, and water transport vehicles and devices.” This move is seen as a step toward entering the electric vehicle market, possibly starting with commercial vehicles (buses, trucks).

In late 2024, information emerged about Vietnam’s electric vehicle manufacturer, VinFast, engaging in discussions with the Adani Group regarding potential collaboration in the Indian market. With its superior strengths in energy and infrastructure, Adani is considered a highly potential strategic partner in the EV industry. If this partnership materializes, it will be a significant boost for VinFast in its quest to conquer the 1.4 billion population market.

Journey to Cover All of India with Electric Vehicles by August 2025

On February 25, 2024, VinFast broke ground on its first electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, India, spanning 400 acres, with a production capacity target of 50,000-150,000 units per year, generating approximately 3,000-3,500 local jobs.

In April 2024, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tamil Nadu government, committing to invest USD 500 million in the initial phase. VinFast also benefits from the Indian government’s new EV policy, which mandates a minimum localization level of 30-50% within 3-5 years.

On January 17 and 18, 2025, VinFast officially entered the Indian market with the launch of its premium electric SUVs, VF 6 and VF 7 (right-hand drive versions), marking the beginning of its strategy to conquer the Indian market.

On July 15, 2025, VinFast started accepting bookings for VF 6 and VF 7, with a fully refundable reservation amount of INR 21,000 (~USD 260). The first showroom was inaugurated in Surat, Gujarat. VinFast aims to have 35 dealerships across 27 cities by the end of 2025.

In August 2025, VinFast inaugurated its largest showroom in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, spanning over 430 square meters, and collaborated with local partners such as RoadGrid, myTVS, and BatX Energies to build an ecosystem for charging, servicing, and battery recycling.
