**Hòa Phát Achieves Energy Self-Sufficiency with Efficient Power Generation at Steel Complexes**

Hòa Phát, a leading Vietnamese steel producer, has made significant strides towards energy self-sufficiency at its integrated steel complexes in Dung Quất and Hải Dương. In the first half of 2025, the company’s thermal power plants generated over 1.8 billion kWh of electricity, enabling Hòa Phát to meet approximately 90% of its steel production electricity needs. This self-generated electricity is valued at nearly VND 3,500 billion based on current electricity prices.

The Dung Quất Integrated Steel Complex boasts state-of-the-art technology from G7 countries, featuring a closed-loop system that optimizes production and maximizes the utilization of waste heat and excess gas generated during the steelmaking process to enhance power generation efficiency and reduce production costs.

Hòa Phát recovers all excess heat from coke production and utilizes excess coal gas from steelmaking as fuel for its boilers, contributing to increased competitiveness, environmental protection, and reduced CO2 emissions. As of June 30, 2025, the Dung Quất complex’s power plant had generated 1.45 billion kWh of electricity, meeting over 90% of the complex’s total electricity requirements.

Since July 2019, just a year after installing the first generator, the power plant has been able to meet the entire steel complex’s electricity demands. Cumulative electricity generation has steadily increased year after year, reaching 5 billion kWh in September 2022 and surpassing 10 billion kWh in February 2025.

With the development of the Hòa Phát Dung Quất 2 project, the company has further invested in a second waste heat power generation system. The second power plant has a capacity of 240MW, consisting of four 60MW generators, bringing the total power generation capacity of the integrated complex to 600MW. This ensures a stable supply of electricity, meeting 90% of the steel production needs for both the HPDQ 1 and HPDQ2 projects.

Following a similar approach, Hòa Phát’s Hải Dương steel complex generated 358 million kWh of electricity in the first half of 2025 through waste heat power generation. Recently, the complex upgraded the synchronous cabinets of three turbine generators to ensure stable power generation when integrated into the national power grid.
