A bold proposal has just been submitted by Amadive Tourism Service Company to Ho Chi Minh City’s Tourism Department and relevant authorities.

The shipwreck of Sheng Li will become an artificial coral reef.

According to Amadive’s proposal, the company suggests sinking the Sheng Li ship to create a premium and unique scuba diving site in the Con Dao marine area. This will contribute to attracting domestic and international tourists, developing green tourism, and promoting natural experiences in Con Dao.

Amadive believes that the project will enhance the tourism value of Con Dao. According to the company, the shipwreck diving site will be a unique and differentiated tourism product, attracting a premium segment of customers, thereby creating more room for growth and providing higher-quality jobs for local people.

The sunken ship will become an artificial coral reef, providing shelter and breeding grounds for many marine species and contributing to increased biodiversity.

Amadive argues that creating an attractive scuba diving site can reduce pressure on natural coral reefs, allowing them to recover and grow more sustainably.

“Amadive is committed to executing this project in accordance with procedures and legal regulations, ensuring maritime safety, environmental protection, and marine landscape preservation. We have thoroughly researched the technical and economic aspects of the project and believe in its feasibility and long-term benefits for Con Dao in particular and Vietnam’s tourism industry as a whole,” the company stated in the document.

Amadive also hopes that the managing authority will consider approving the proposal and providing guidance on completing the necessary legal procedures to facilitate its implementation, contributing to the sustainable development of Con Dao’s marine tourism.

Approval of disposal plan through auction

Sheng Li is a refrigerated cargo ship built in 2002 with a width of 8.5 meters, a length of 52 meters, and an estimated cargo capacity of 12,000 tons.

Currently, the ship is old, rusty, and severely damaged, rendering it unusable. The People’s Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau (formerly) approved the disposal plan to auction the ship for scrap.

Sheng Li is currently moored at the storm shelter for fishing vessels in Con Dao. According to Amadive, the ship is characterized by its large size, multiple compartments, and cargo holds. If sunk, this ship offers potential for diverse and multi-level exploration routes…
