VinFast Ha Tinh Factory Adopts Solar Power

As Vietnam embarks on its green energy journey, VinEnergo, a leading energy company, has signed a memorandum of understanding to implement a solar power solution integrated with energy storage systems (BESS) for VinFast, VinES, and the V-G joint venture’s factories. This significant step forward will promote clean energy usage and infrastructure development in the electric vehicle and battery manufacturing complex in Vung Ang Economic Zone.

Per the agreement, VinEnergo will invest in, install, and operate a solar panel system on the factory roofs, coupled with a battery energy storage system (BESS) for the VinFast Ha Tinh factory, the VinES Ha Tinh battery pack and energy storage factory, and the V-G battery manufacturing plant.

The planned installed capacity for the factories in the Vung Ang Economic Zone is 43MWp of solar power and 45MWh for BESS. This system is expected to generate nearly 50 million kWh of electricity annually, equivalent to reducing over 33,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year. The project directly contributes to realizing Vingroup’s net-zero emissions target by 2040.

Notably, the BESS solution is researched and produced by VinFast itself, adhering to international safety and quality standards. This technology application has positioned VinEnergo as a pioneer in deploying large-scale BESS solutions in Vietnam.

By synchronously implementing solar power and BESS across the VinFast, VinES, and V-G factories, VinEnergo becomes the first company in Vietnam to introduce a direct power purchase agreement (DPPA) model, including solar power coupled with BESS. This model aligns with the government’s mechanism to encourage renewable energy development and usage, contributing to the transformation of Vung Ang Economic Zone into a future green industrial zone.

Nguyen Huong Giang, Vice President of VinEnergo, affirmed that this project is not just an energy initiative but also symbolizes the determination of Vietnamese enterprises to embrace new technologies to achieve Vietnam’s Net Zero goal. The project in the VinFast and battery complex in Ha Tinh marks the beginning of VinEnergo’s journey to provide comprehensive clean energy solutions to partners and businesses nationwide.

Ha Tinh’s Growth Engine

Established under the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 72/2006/QD-TTg dated April 3, 2006, Vung Ang Economic Zone spans 22,781 hectares, encompassing nine communes and wards in the south of Ky Anh town. Its geographical advantages include proximity to Ha Tinh city (70 km south) and Dong Hoi airport (50 km north), as well as its strategic location on the North-South transport axis and the East-West Economic Corridor, facilitating trade and exchange.

In the provincial planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision towards 2050, Ha Tinh continues to recognize Vung Ang as a pivotal growth engine for the province. It will serve as the central region’s and the country’s hub for steelmaking, auxiliary industries, post-steel manufacturing, thermal power, and deep-water seaports. Additionally, it is designated as one of Vietnam’s three international maritime trade hubs.

With its future development orientation, Vung Ang aspires to become a green industrial zone.
