HD Hyundai Vietnam Receives Investment Certificate for Expansion

HD Hyundai Vietnam’s expansion plans

The Management Board of Khanh Hoa Province’s Economic and Industrial Zones has granted an adjusted investment registration certificate (the 11th adjustment) to HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. This certificate allows the company to invest in and expand its operations by constructing a new factory for ship repair, shipbuilding, and steel structure fabrication.

The company’s expansion plans aim to meet market demands, enhance product quality, and diversify its product range to include container ships and car carriers, among others.

The project is a joint venture between Vietnam and South Korea. The Vietnamese partner is the Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC), while the Korean partners include HD Hyundai Mipo (HMD), HD Korea Offshore & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (HDKSOE), and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. (HEC).

HD Hyundai Vietnam’s new investments

With a total investment of VND 8,126 billion (USD 351.8 million), the project includes new investments in Piers 4, 5, and 6, totaling VND 1,547 billion.

Specifically, the investment in Pier 4 is valued at VND 414.4 billion (USD 16.3 million) and is expected to be completed by December 2026. The investment in Piers 5 and 6, totaling VND 1,133 billion (USD 44.5 million), will be completed by December 2030.

HD Hyundai Vietnam’s future plans

With these new investments, HD Hyundai Vietnam aims to increase its shipbuilding capacity to 115,000 DWT and an annual capacity of 1,440,000 DWT by 2030. Currently, the shipyard can build ships up to 110,000 DWT, with an annual capacity of 950,000 DWT, specializing in bulk carriers, oil tankers, and chemical carriers.

The project, which has been in operation for nearly 29 years, has delivered 189 bulk carriers and oil tankers ranging from 35,000 DWT to 110,000 DWT as of July 25, 2025. The company delivers approximately 15 ships per year. In the years 2022-2024, they built 40 new ships.

By 2030, the company aims to build 23 ships annually, and by 2050, it plans to increase its capacity to 40 ships per year, with a maximum capacity of 150,000 DWT.

In 2024, HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. successfully delivered 15 ships, generating revenue of over USD 620 million. For 2025, the company plans to deliver 16 ships and 9 ship cabins, with expected revenue exceeding USD 700 million.
