Regarding the proposal to sink the Sheng Li vessel to create a premium diving site in the Con Dao area (Ho Chi Minh City), the Department of Tourism has submitted a suggestion to the Department of Agriculture and Environment (Ho Chi Minh City).

After careful examination and review, the Department of Tourism expressed its basic agreement with the proposal to sink the Sheng Li vessel to establish a unique and premium diving site in the Con Dao marine area, attracting both domestic and international tourists, as well as contributing to the development of eco-tourism and nature-oriented experiences in Con Dao.

However, the Department of Tourism requested that the Department of Agriculture and Environment conduct a survey, inspection, update, assessment, and forecast regarding the sinking location, taking into account the planned water area and the potential impact of the vessel’s sinking on future tourism activities.

According to the Department of Tourism (Ho Chi Minh City), it is necessary to have a monitoring plan to ensure water quality and prevent pollution from spreading to surrounding areas, including the potential impact on bathing beaches for tourism purposes within the Con Dao Special Zone.

This proposal was developed and suggested by Amadive Tourism Service Company and is currently under consideration by the Department of Tourism (Ho Chi Minh City), the Department of Agriculture and Environment, and other relevant units.

In an interview with NLD reporters on August 10, a leader of the Department of Tourism (Ho Chi Minh City) stated that if implemented, this proposal could create a unique model for developing new tourism products. While this model of sinking vessels to create diving sites and attract tourists has been successfully employed worldwide, it has not yet been attempted in Vietnam. Therefore, if a new and sustainable tourism product can be created, it is worth investigating.

Creating a Distinctive Tourism Product for Con Dao

As previously reported by NLD, according to Amadive’s proposal, the company suggested sinking the Sheng Li vessel to establish a premium and unique diving site in the Con Dao marine area. Amadive believes that this proposal will enhance the tourism value of Con Dao.

“The shipwreck diving site will offer a distinctive and premium experience, attracting high-end customers and creating more opportunities for growth and better jobs for local residents,” said a company representative. “The sunken vessel will become an artificial reef, providing shelter and breeding grounds for various marine species, thus contributing to biodiversity.”
