As part of the State visit to the Republic of Korea by General Secretary To Lam and his spouse, on August 11, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien worked with Mr. Kim Jung-kwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea.
Minister Nguyen Hong Dien affirmed that the bilateral economic and trade relations are at a brilliant development stage, vividly reflecting the comprehensive strategic partnership, in which the Republic of Korea is Vietnam’s largest investment partner and the third largest trade partner.
With the results and potential for cooperation between the two countries, the Minister expressed his belief that the two countries will achieve the goal of 150 billion USD in trade turnover by 2030.
To realize this goal, the two ministers agreed to dedicate all resources to promote the relevant parties in implementing the “Action Plan to achieve the goal of 150 billion USD in two-way trade in a more balanced direction by 2030”, which was signed in April 2025.
Accordingly, the two sides will coordinate and implement cooperation in priority fields, such as: in terms of trade, strengthening cooperation, supporting the connection of Vietnamese and Korean businesses; promoting market opening for agricultural products of the two countries; strengthening cooperation in the field of logistics, building logistics centers to improve supply chain connectivity, reducing delivery time, transportation costs, and creating conditions for goods to circulate faster between the two countries; strengthening the exchange of information, policies related to trade remedies, food hygiene and safety, and quarantine.

In terms of industry, mutual support will be provided in the field of providing and training high-quality human resources in shipbuilding; continue to support enterprises in technology cooperation for the supply chain of essential minerals, to ensure a stable and sustainable supply for emerging industries such as battery production, renewable energy, electric vehicles, and high technology.
Regarding energy, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that Korean businesses, with their extensive capabilities and experience, continue to cooperate and invest in the development of renewable energy and new types of energy such as hydrogen and nuclear power.
Regarding nuclear power cooperation, Minister Kim Jung-kwan affirmed that the Republic of Korea has full experience and conditions to cooperate with Vietnam, with three key factors: technology, capital, and human resource training.
Based on the close, comprehensive, and long-term relationship between the two countries, the Minister emphasized that the Republic of Korea is ready to accompany Vietnam to successfully develop the nuclear power program.
At the working session, the two ministers handed over the “Memorandum of Understanding on the Project for the Center for Technology Cooperation in the Supply Chain of Essential Minerals in Vietnam” between the Korea Institute of Technology and the Institute of Science and Technology – Metallurgy, Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam.
