On August 5, 2025, the second oxygen blow furnace (BOF) and the RH vacuum refining furnace of the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Integrated Steel Production Project officially commenced operations. With these furnaces, Hoa Phat can produce steel grades that meet the highest quality standards in the world.

Both the BOF and RH furnaces were designed, manufactured, and supplied by the SMS Group from Germany. The BOF furnace has a capacity of 300 tons per heat and a daily production capacity of 9,000 tons of steel with minimal impurities.

The operation of the oxygen blow furnace and the RH refining furnace marks a crucial step towards the activation of the project’s second blast furnace and the completion of the entire project by September 2025.

The Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project features a blast furnace with a volume of 2,500m3, double the size of the Dung Quat 1 furnace, and improved energy efficiency. Hoa Phat has also invested in exceeding current environmental standards, particularly in reducing CO2 emissions and energy consumption.

The Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Integrated Steel Production Project utilizes state-of-the-art technology from European and G7 partners, including SMS (Germany) and Primetals (UK). In May 2025, Hoa Phat and SM signed a contract for the supply of technology and production lines for rail and shaped steel with an annual capacity of 700,000 tons.

In mid-June, Hoa Phat Dung Quat commissioned the second thick steel plate casting machine, achieving a daily casting capacity of 20,000 tons of thick plates.

In addition to producing conventional HRC, the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project specializes in high-end HRC products for the manufacturing, automotive, food, petrochemical, and household industries.

With the completion of the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project in September 2025, Hoa Phat’s total steel production capacity will reach 16 million tons per year, including 9 million tons of hot-rolled coil, fully meeting the domestic market demand for this product.
