According to statistics from the motorcycle specialty site, Motorcycles Data, the Vietnamese electric motorcycle market witnessed a remarkable surge in the first half of 2025, with consumption reaching approximately 209,000 units, a 99.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

With these results, Vietnam becomes the third-largest electric motorcycle market globally. China leads this sector with over 3.2 million electric motorcycles sold, followed by India at 657,000.

Motorcycles Data also reports that the L1 electric motorcycle group (equivalent to engines below 50cc) in Vietnam is rapidly developing, with sales surging 112.6% in H1 2025. These are low-power motorcycles that do not require a license, targeting students with their convenience and low operating costs.

This small electric motorcycle segment also saw vibrant activity in the first half of the year with the launch of new models such as the VinFast Motio, Honda ICON :e, and Yadea Vekoo, along with stimulus discount programs from manufacturers and dealers.

Alongside the L1 group, the L3 electric motorcycle category (equivalent to engines above 50cc) also recorded an impressive growth rate of 52.6% during the same period. These figures indicate that electric motorcycles are increasingly embraced and becoming more popular among Vietnamese consumers.

Presently, the Vietnamese electric motorcycle market is predominantly covered by Vietnamese and Chinese brands. Notable domestic manufacturers include VinFast, Dat Bike, Selex Motors, Pega, and Espero (Detech).

Of these, only VinFast discloses its electric motorcycle sales figures. Specifically, the Vietnamese manufacturer delivered a total of 114,484 electric motorcycles in the first half of 2025, surpassing the previous year’s total of 70,977.

When compared to Motorcycles Data’s overall market data, VinFast’s electric motorcycle sales for the first six months accounted for over 55% of the total. This means the Vietnamese manufacturer is selling more electric motorcycles than all its competitors combined.

Per Motorcycles Data, VinFast, despite solely selling electric vehicles, ranks as the third-largest two-wheeler brand in Vietnam, only behind Honda and Yamaha. Additionally, brands like Yadea, Dibao, and Pega are continuously rising, contributing to the development of the Vietnamese electric motorcycle market.

With the government tightening policies on gasoline-powered motorcycles in major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the demand for electric motorcycles is forecasted to surge in the future.

Companies specializing in electric motorcycles will benefit the most from this increased demand. Meanwhile, traditional motorcycle manufacturers like Honda and Yamaha, despite their established presence, will need to adjust their business strategies to adapt to the new policies and compete with the growing electric motorcycle brands.
