“Vietnam’s Crab and Crayfish Exports Surge in H1 2025: Analyzing the Growth and Challenges”
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) reports a significant surge in Vietnam’s crab and crayfish exports during the first half of 2025, reaching a remarkable $173 million. This outstanding performance marks a 38% increase compared to the same period in 2024 and sets a new record high over the past decade.
Crab products led the growth, while crayfish and shrimp showed a declining trend.
Vietnam’s crab and crayfish exports reached 25 countries and territories, with most markets experiencing positive growth.
China, the leading market, witnessed strong growth in the first quarter of 2025 but slowed down in the second quarter.

Other markets with impressive growth include the European Union (EU), which increased by 71%, and Australia, which saw a 58% rise.
According to industry insiders, crab and crayfish products often face instability in pricing and supply, hindering their sustainable development.
In the first half of 2021, exports of crab and crayfish stood at $70 million, surging to around $100 million in the same period in 2022, only to plummet back to 2021 levels in 2023.
Notably, crayfish supplies have been consistently scarce in recent years, particularly larger specimens, due to the indiscriminate harvesting of smaller individuals.
Crab, crayfish, and other crustaceans fall under niche product categories, accounting for less than 4% of Vietnam’s seafood export value. Nonetheless, they contribute to the diversification and richness of Vietnam’s seafood offerings.
