The Phu Tich – Dai Dong Thanh Bridge: Unveiling a Majestic Landmark

After nearly six years in the making, the Phu Tich – Dai Dong Thanh Bridge, also known as the Kinh Duong Vuong Bridge, spanning the Duong River in Bac Ninh province, officially opened to traffic on October 11, 2023.
With a total investment of nearly VND 2,000 billion, the project was managed and operated by the Bac Ninh Provincial Traffic Construction Management Board.

The bridge boasts a total length of over 1,500 meters and a width of 22.5 meters. Its iconic design features five arch spans ranging from 40 to 67 meters in height. Soaring to a height of 87 meters from the water’s surface to the top of the steel arch, it is currently Vietnam’s tallest steel arch bridge.
The graceful curves of the bridge resemble a silk scarf draped over the Duong River, and its reflections create the image of the distinctive Non Quai Thao hat associated with the Quan Ho folk songs of Bac Ninh.
The bridge’s architecture is inspired by a pair of dragons from the Ly dynasty, with their bodies forming a graceful S-shape as they playfully dance on the water. At the peak of each arch, the dragon’s heads face each other symmetrically, framing a jewel that symbolizes the moon and the sun.
The completion of this bridge has formed a comprehensive transportation network between the north and south Duong River areas of Bac Ninh province, while also connecting to other provinces in the Red River Delta.

The design of this remarkable bridge was the brainchild of the VTCO – WSP Finland joint venture, which won the first prize in the architectural competition for the Phu Tich – Dai Dong Thanh Bridge in 2016. VTCO, established in 2004, is a leading construction consulting company with a charter capital of VND 31.7 billion as of October 2022.
Prior to their involvement in this project, the company has left its mark on numerous large-scale projects, including the Thu Thiem Pedestrian Bridge, Thu Thiem 2 and Thu Thiem 4 Bridges in Ho Chi Minh City, the Tran Hung Dao Bridge in Hanoi, the Ben Thanh – Thu Thiem Metro Line 1 with a total investment of over VND 47,000 billion, the Thu Thiem Observation Complex with an investment of USD 1.2 billion, Hyatt Regency Ho Tram Resort & Spa, Tuan Chau Resort, and Thien An Golf Course, among others.
