Petrolimex Aviation Leads the Way in Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Petrolimex Aviation Unveils Sustainable Aviation Fuel

On August 15, 2025, at the Petrolimex Oil Depot in Nhà Bè, a subsidiary of the Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex, stock code: PLX), Petrolimex Aviation officially introduced Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

SAF is an aviation fuel produced from renewable feedstocks, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels. With a potential to reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel, SAF is a pivotal solution for the global aviation industry to achieve its net-zero emissions target by 2050.

Petrolimex is the first company in Vietnam to import synthetic blending components (SBC), which are derived from biological/renewable sources. They are also the first to master the blending technology for SAF, adhering to stringent international standards such as EI 1533, ASTM D7566, DEF STAN 91-091, and the Vietnamese standard TCVN 14414:2025. Petrolimex Aviation has successfully supplied and loaded SAF for domestic commercial flights.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Phạm Văn Thanh, Member of the Government Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Petrolimex, stated: “Petrolimex has proactively invested in and mastered the technology to blend SAF at the Nhà Bè Oil Depot. We are also the first company in Vietnam to import SBC for SAF blending. This achievement demonstrates our strong commitment to the green transition journey, aligning with the Government, airlines, and society towards sustainable development.”

Mr. Uông Việt DÅ©ng, Director of the Vietnam Aviation Authority, commended Petrolimex and Petrolimex Aviation for taking the lead in researching, blending, and supplying SAF. He emphasized: “The launch of SAF holds not only commercial significance but also long-term strategic value, laying the foundation for a sustainable SAF supply chain in Vietnam. It meets the requirements of the international market and encourages collaboration among airlines, fuel suppliers, regulatory bodies, and financial organizations to promote the use of SAF in Vietnam.”

At the event, Petrolimex Aviation signed a cooperation agreement with Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company for the consumption of SAF. As per the agreement, Petrolimex Aviation will provide the entire 1,200 cubic meters of SAF, the first batch blended in Vietnam, for Vietjet’s flights and transfer the Proof of Sustainability (PoS) according to the ISCC EU standard. This milestone affirms the commitment of both parties to reducing carbon emissions and fostering the development of green aviation in Vietnam.
