A video of a Ford electric vehicle accident is going viral on social media, with captions claiming that the car had a malfunction, with the steering wheel locked and the accelerator stuck to the floor, leaving the driver praying before crashing into another vehicle. However, fact-checking revealed the truth to be completely opposite.
Lead Stories used location-tracking techniques to identify the accident scene and obtained a police report, concluding that the cause was not a Ford electric vehicle malfunction. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the driver was arrested for driving under the influence. The individual who posted the misinformation was also not a witness to the accident and did not capture the video.
The controversial claims originated from a post on X.com on August 14, 2025, by HustleB*tch_, which garnered 7 million views in just one day.
The post was titled: “???? FORD ELECTRIC VEHICLE MALFUNCTION”. The content further asserted: “STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, ACCELERATOR STUCK ON THE FREEWAY. The driver could only pray as the car careened out of control before crashing into another vehicle.”

The video, reposted on Instagram, garnered a lot of views and comments. (Screenshot)
Apart from the viral video, the poster provided no links, documents, witnesses, or evidence to support the claim of a vehicle malfunction.
The version fact-checked by Lead Stories was posted by an account known for clickbait content. In reality, this video appeared on TikTok a few hours earlier and was confirmed by the uploader to have been captured by him on his way to work.
The TikTok post made no mention of a faulty vehicle or a distressed driver praying; instead, it simply stated: “Today on my way to work in San Carlos”.
Based on highway signs and landmarks in the video, Lead Stories identified the accident scene as U.S. Highway 101 in San Carlos, California, near two major interchanges. Lead Stories contacted the California Highway Patrol, who confirmed the accident’s location and provided an official statement:
“Our investigation determined that the vehicle was not operating in autonomous mode. CHP officers arrested the driver on charges of driving under the influence and causing injury to another person,” CHP emphasized. “We understand the public’s interest in these types of incidents, but online clips may not reflect the full context and ongoing investigation.”
It is worth noting that the Ford Mustang has also recently been introduced to the Vietnamese market.
