As a photography enthusiast, I’m particularly intrigued by the rumored camera system on the iPhone 17 Air. While Apple’s decision to equip the iPhone 16e with a single rear camera was understandable, doing the same with the iPhone 17 Air might be a misstep.
Rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 Air will feature a single 48MP rear camera, which pales in comparison to the triple-camera setups we’ve become accustomed to. This could be a point where the Galaxy S25 Edge shines, but Apple is known for its surprises.
My comparison of 200 photos between the iPhone 16e and Pixel 9a is a testament to Apple’s image processing prowess. Despite a narrow loss, the iPhone 16e impressed with its telephoto capabilities and dynamic range. Apple can certainly replicate this success with the iPhone 17 Air.
Leaked images and renders of the iPhone 17 Air feature a prominent camera bar that spans the width of the device. This suggests a larger sensor, possibly similar to the one on the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. If true, this would be a significant advantage.
The only drawback might be the lack of an ultrawide lens, but a single camera with a slightly wider field of view could suffice.

There’s no denying that the iPhone 17 Air will be a technological marvel. Rumors suggest it will be even thinner than the Galaxy S25 Edge, measuring just 5.5mm in thickness.
As I mentioned in my review of the Galaxy S25 Edge, the biggest trade-off for an ultra-thin phone is a significant compromise in battery life. However, Apple might alleviate these concerns with iOS 26 beta’s adaptive power mode, which optimizes performance to conserve energy.
Additionally, the rumored A19 Pro chip in the iPhone 17 Air is expected to offer superior energy efficiency, potentially outperforming even the standard iPhone 17 in terms of battery life.
Higher Price, Smart Financing

Ideally, the iPhone 17 Air would retain the $899 price tag of the current iPhone 16 Plus. However, with the pricing of the Galaxy S25 Edge and Galaxy Z Fold 7 in mind, I’m not optimistic about this possibility.
Rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 Air could even be priced higher than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which would make it a harder sell. A more realistic scenario is for Apple to position the iPhone 17 Air between the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, equivalent to a $1,099 price point if Apple maintains its previous pricing structure. This would pit it directly against the Galaxy S25 Edge.
While I prioritize value-for-money devices, I won’t be surprised if the iPhone 17 Air launch is accompanied by attractive financing offers to offset the higher price. Remember the iPhone 16 Pro Max last year? Its price dropped significantly within a month of its release.
