According to a report by the Hanoi Bus Station Joint Stock Company, the National Day holiday on September 2nd will provide a four-day break for citizens, from August 30th to September 2nd. This period marks the end of summer, and travel demands, especially for tourism and recreation, are expected to surge, particularly within the inner city and connecting routes to bus stations, train stations, and airports, as well as entertainment spots, shopping malls, and walking streets.
Hanoi: No Fare Increases, No Overcrowding
It is anticipated that there will be a significant rise in the number of passengers and vehicles from the afternoon of August 28th to August 30th, both departing and returning. The peak of outbound travel is expected to occur on September 1st and 2nd, followed by a gradual decrease on September 3rd and 4th.
Statistical data reveals that at the Giap Bat Bus Station, the peak outbound volume is around 20,000 passengers per day, while the inbound volume is approximately 10,000 passengers per day (a 350% increase compared to regular days), with 850-900 bus trips per day. The increase in passengers is mainly observed on routes to Nam Dinh (old route), Thai Binh (old route), Ninh Binh, and Thanh Hoa…
At the Gia Lam Bus Station, the peak outbound volume is about 5,000 passengers per day, while the inbound volume is around 1,500 passengers per day (a 250% increase), with approximately 400 bus trips per day. The majority of these trips are to and from Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, and Bac Giang…
The My Dinh Bus Station expects a peak outbound volume of about 22,000 passengers per day and an inbound volume of 12,000 passengers per day (an increase of over 350%), with more than 950 bus trips per day. The focus is on routes to Hoa Binh (old route), Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai (old route), Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau, Quang Ninh, and Cao Bang…
Mr. Trinh Hoai Lam, Deputy Director of Nuoc Ngam Bus Station, shared that the station has finalized preparations to serve passengers during this peak period. The station premises have been tidied up, and additional buses will be deployed on routes to Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, and Ha Tinh… The station has also requested the Department of Construction to issue 100 temporary badges to facilitate passenger clearance during this busy period. Notably, no enterprise has proposed a fare increase.
The representative of Giap Bat Bus Station affirmed that the station has coordinated with the Hoang Mai Ward Police and Traffic Police Team No. 14 to inspect vehicles before departure, including checking alcohol levels and fire safety equipment. Enterprises have also committed to maintaining fare stability and avoiding passenger overcrowding.
Mr. Pham Manh Hung, Director of Hanoi Bus Station Joint Stock Company, provided the following information: Approximately 1,000 additional buses will be deployed, including 324 at Giap Bat, 146 at Gia Lam, and 530 at My Dinh. The allocation of additional buses will be adjusted daily and per route based on actual passenger demand. The company has requested the Hanoi Department of Construction to temporarily issue 700 badges for additional buses (from August 28th to September 5th), including 400 badges for buses operating within a 300km radius and 300 badges for those traveling beyond 300km.
Additionally, the Hanoi Bus Station Joint Stock Company will collaborate with functional forces to inspect and strictly handle violations such as overloading, selling tickets above regulated prices, operating with incomplete driver or vehicle documents, and picking up or dropping off passengers in unauthorized locations, causing traffic congestion and disorder. The company has also proposed that the Hanoi Transport Corporation direct bus units to prepare backup plans to mobilize reserve buses to transport all passengers during peak days.

Ho Chi Minh City: Fare Increase of up to 40% for Some Routes
At the Mien Tay Bus Station in Ho Chi Minh City, it is predicted that there will be a 7% increase in passengers and a 5% increase in vehicles compared to the same period in 2024. The peak day is expected to be Saturday, August 30th, with an estimated outbound passenger volume of 65,500 people and 2,250 bus departures.
Regarding fares, transport units can adjust prices to compensate for turnaround costs for routes in the Mekong Delta region, with an increase of up to 40% compared to regular days, within a two-day period.
Mien Tay Bus Station will implement a ticket-selling schedule from 5 AM to 9 PM daily for commissioned transport units, while also enhancing security, environmental sanitation, and fire prevention and control measures.
At the new Mien Dong Bus Station, a 27% increase in passengers and an 18% increase in vehicles are expected compared to 2024, mainly on short routes from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City. The total passenger volume during the six-day period (August 29th – September 3rd) is estimated to reach approximately 53,800 people.
Mien Dong Bus Station encourages transport units not to adjust fares during the holiday service period. Transport units are allowed to increase fares to compensate for turnaround costs for a maximum of two days (August 29th and 30th). The expected adjustment for routes from Da Nang to Dong Nai and the Mekong Delta region is a maximum increase of 40% compared to regular days.
At the old Mien Dong Bus Station in Binh Thanh District, the expected passenger volume is nearly 56,000, mainly traveling to the Central Highlands provinces, with approximately 2,700 trips. The fare is permitted to increase by a maximum of 40% on August 29th and 30th.
Currently, the bus stations are monitoring passenger and vehicle traffic on each route to make adjustments and focus on serving key routes, preventing congestion and passenger accumulation. In the event of a significant increase in passengers, exceeding the transport capacity of the units, the stations will proactively coordinate and mobilize additional vehicles to transport passengers.
