Using Discipline to Break Free from Conventions

When it comes to creativity, we often associate it with brand new ideas, breaking free from existing structures, and doing things differently. However, at MB, we believe that Creativity through Discipline is the key. As shared by CEO Pham Nhu Anh, this unique approach has helped MB break free from conventions and become one of the most innovative banks in Vietnam.

First and foremost, discipline in our thinking habits. Instead of waiting for inspiration to strike, we train ourselves to actively seek out methods for improvement, aiming to make tomorrow better than today.

At MB, we’ve embraced Design Thinking to identify the right problems to solve. This method has proven effective not only for individuals but also for the organization as a whole. By focusing on data analysis, empathy, and deep insights into customer needs, MB has launched trendsetting products that meet market demands. Notable examples include the MB Hi Collection cards, which allow customers to self-identify on the app, and the ability to choose one’s account number, a feature that has attracted millions of new customers.

Additionally, as shared by Mr. Anh, creativity also stems from cultivating the habit of objective and direct problem-solving through critique. This approach transforms each individual into a “creative cell” within the organization. MB highly values the spirit of critique and creativity among its employees, even establishing internal platforms for staff to propose ideas or provide feedback directly to the CEO.

This unique intersection of discipline and an entrepreneurial spirit has become MB’s signature, enabling us to transcend conventions and establish ourselves as a pioneer in Vietnam’s financial market.

Innovative Thinking Leads to MB’s Special Positioning and Solid Standing within the Big 5

In the highly competitive financial industry, MB has carved out a distinct positioning: a Digital Enterprise and Leading Financial Group, refusing to be confined to the traditional concept of a “commercial bank.” This is not just a marketing slogan but a long-term development strategy. MB’s entire information technology system, from infrastructure to digital products, is self-developed, giving us a unique advantage in a sector where imitation is rampant.

As of the end of June 2025, MB’s consolidated total assets approximated VND 1,290,000 billion, placing us among the top 5 banks in Vietnam, alongside BIDV, Vietcombank, VietinBank, and Agribank.

As of Q2 2025, MB served approximately 32.5 million customers, with a remarkable 98.6% of transactions conducted through digital channels. The bank’s revenue increased by over 25% year-on-year, while the group’s bad debt ratio was maintained at a healthy 1.6%.

Looking ahead, MB remains committed to its vision and goal of becoming a Digital Enterprise and Leading Financial Group, maintaining its standing within the Big 5 commercial banks in Vietnam and striving to be among the top 3 most efficient banks in the market, with aspirations to join the ranks of the leading banks in Asia.

To achieve these ambitious goals, MB has identified three strategic breakthroughs: improving organization, work methods, and labor productivity; applying AI, robotics, RPA, and new technologies in governance, business, and digital product development; and refining our strategy and enhancing execution capabilities.

As we strive toward these unique and challenging goals, innovation will remain the driving force behind MB’s success.
