The B-segment SUV market in Vietnam has been one of the most dynamic segments in the country’s automotive industry this year. Aside from the introduction of new models, the segment has witnessed a fierce competition between two leading vehicles: the Mitsubishi Xforce and the Toyota Yaris Cross.

After a slow start earlier this year, the Mitsubishi Xforce made a remarkable comeback in June, achieving a sales figure of 1,431 units. This performance surpassed that of the Toyota Yaris Cross, making the Japanese model the best-selling B-segment SUV with a gasoline engine.

The battle between the Mitsubishi Xforce and Toyota Yaris Cross for the top spot in the B-segment SUV market continues.

However, in July, the tables turned once again as Toyota Yaris Cross announced a sales figure of 1,259 units, a 9.5% growth, reclaiming the top position.

Meanwhile, the Mitsubishi Xforce, despite a 17.2% decline from the previous month, still maintained a strong performance with 1,185 units sold, securing the second position in the gasoline-powered B-segment SUV category.

The narrow gap of only 74 units between the two Japanese models in July highlights the intense competition at the top of the urban SUV segment.

When considering all types of propulsion, the best-selling B-segment SUV title goes to the VinFast VF 6. In July, this electric vehicle witnessed a remarkable growth of 52.8%, with 1,902 units sold.

VinFast VF 6 leads the sales in the urban SUV B-segment.

Accumulated over the first seven months of 2025, VinFast VF 6 has delivered a total of 10,454 units, averaging 1,400 units per month. Despite its relatively high price within the segment, the VF 6 offers lower operating and registration costs, along with promotional prices and free charging from the manufacturer.

Following the VF 6 in year-to-date sales are the Toyota Yaris Cross and Mitsubishi Xforce, with cumulative sales of 6,679 and 5,760 units, respectively.

The gap between the Toyota Yaris Cross and Mitsubishi Xforce is currently over 900 units, which is significant but not insurmountable, especially considering Mitsubishi’s recent incentive program. The company is offering a 50-100% discount on registration fees for all Xforce versions except the Exceed variant. For the base GLX trim, the maximum discount of 100% translates to a price reduction of VND 60 million, bringing the starting price down to an attractive VND 539 million.

This competitive pricing strategy is expected to boost the Xforce’s pursuit of the Yaris Cross in the sales race. Toyota, on the other hand, is also offering discounts of up to 50% on registration fees for two versions of the Yaris Cross, resulting in savings of up to VND 33-38 million.

Returning to the B-segment SUV category, the Toyota Corolla Cross and Hyundai Creta occupy the fourth and fifth positions in cumulative sales since the beginning of the year, with 4,504 and 3,577 units sold, respectively. Following closely behind are the Kia Seltos (3,107 units), Honda HR-V (3,043 units), Mazda CX-3 (1,680 units), and Mazda CX-30 (939 units).

Throughout August, all these models benefit from a 50% discount on registration fees offered by the manufacturers and dealers, resulting in average savings of VND 30-40 million depending on the model and version.

The Japanese and Korean SUVs in this segment not only compete among themselves but also face new challengers from Chinese brands such as the Geely Coolray, Omoda C5, and Lynk & Co 06. Some of these Chinese models, already competitively priced, are further bolstered by additional manufacturer incentives, intensifying the competition within the B-segment SUV market. This situation prompts even the top-selling models to maintain promotional offers to gain and retain their market share.
