On August 19, 2025, Project Management Unit 6 under the Ministry of Construction held a technical inauguration ceremony for the Vung Ang-Bung section, which is part of the North-South Expressway Eastern Cluster project for the 2021-2025 period.
The construction of the Vung Ang-Bung section, which is part of the North-South Expressway Eastern Cluster project for the 2021-2025 period, commenced in January 2023 and has now substantially completed the main route.
The project starts at Km658+200 in Ky Tan commune, Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province (now Ky Hoa town, Ha Tinh province) and connects with the Ham Nghi-Vung Ang section.
The endpoint is located at approximately Km 624+228.79 in Cu Nam commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province (now Bo Trach town, Quang Tri province), linking to the Bung-Van Ninh section.
There are two interchanging intersections: Tien Chau-Van Hoa and National Highway 12A. The inaugurated section is approximately 55.34 km long.
The project traverses Ky Anh district, Ky Anh town, Quang Trach district, Ba Don town, and Bo Trach district of Quang Binh province (now Ky Hoa town in Ha Tinh province and Phu Trach, Hoa Trach, Trung Thuan, Quang Trach, Tan Gianh, Ba Don, Nam Ba Don, Nam Gianh, Bac Trach, and Bo Trach towns/wards in Quang Tri province). The total investment capital for the project amounts to VND 12,548 billion.
According to the Ministry of Construction, the main route of the Vung Ang-Bung section is expected to be operational from August 28, 2025.
The Ministry of Construction selected the investor for the rest stop in March 2025. The investor is currently constructing the rest stop as per regulations.
Additionally, the Ministry of Construction is directing Project Management Unit 6 to expedite the completion of the remaining items of the Vung Ang-Bung section, including the collection-distribution road system, ITS, and other works.
