According to the Department of Construction, the Can Gio Bridge project was previously proposed by several investors under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, combining BOT and BT contracts. The department is currently conducting a pre-feasibility study for the project, which will be submitted to the authorities for investment approval in September 2025.

The Can Gio Bridge is envisioned to have four lanes for motor vehicles and two mixed lanes, spanning the Soai Rap River with a total length of approximately 7.3 km, including the bridge and approach roads.

In terms of timeline, the investment preparation phase is expected to take place between 2024 and 2025, with construction commencing in 2026 and completion anticipated by 2028.

Currently, residents and tourists traveling to Can Gio district rely on the Binh Khanh ferry to cross the Soai Rap River, which can be time-consuming, especially during peak hours, weekends, and holidays when traffic volume is high. The construction of the Can Gio Bridge will not only shorten travel distances but also significantly reduce travel time, facilitating smoother transportation, and boosting the economic, social, and tourism development of the region.

In addition to the Can Gio Bridge project, the Department of Construction of Ho Chi Minh City also provided updates on the Cat Lai Bridge project, which will connect Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province. Both localities are collaborating to expedite the project’s implementation with a target to commence and complete construction as soon as possible.
