A Soaring Year for Business Tycoon Do Vinh Ha: Commencing Construction on a Billion-Dollar Airport, Investing in Vietravel Airlines, and Meeting with the King of Bhutan for Global Business Ventures.

On August 20, 2025, as part of a state visit to Vietnam, the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and Queen Jetsun Pema, along with a high-level Bhutanese delegation, paid a visit to the T&T Group.

During the visit, Mr. Do Quang Hien, Executive Chairman of T&T Group, shared highlights of the group’s activities, as well as those of SHB Bank.

Mr. Hien expressed his desire to establish economic, trade, and investment collaborations with Bhutan in areas that are strengths of both Bhutan and T&T Group. These include spiritual tourism, organic and high-quality agriculture, science and technology, and innovation.

Notably, in the aviation industry, as the owner of Vietravel Airlines, Mr. Hien proposed to the King of Bhutan the establishment of direct flights between Bhutan and Vietnam through cooperation with Bhutan Airlines.

Direct flights would not only boost tourism and cargo transportation but also significantly contribute to the development of trade and cultural exchanges between the two countries, and between Bhutan and Southeast Asia as a whole.

During the meeting, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck affirmed that this would be a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the socio-economic development of both nations, thereby fostering the friendly cooperative relations between the two countries.

The King also shared his vision for the development of the “Awakening City” – a new urban project that Bhutan is implementing. With its large scale, the project demands several key infrastructure components such as an international airport, terminal, and a large demand for construction materials and equipment. Bhutan aims to strengthen cooperation and seek additional resources and international expertise to ensure efficiency and sustainability.

In other news, Mr. Do Quang Hien’s T&T Group has been making notable moves in the aviation industry over the past year.

In July 2024, the T&T – CIENCO 4 investor consortium officially started the construction of Quang Tri Airport with a total investment of over VND 5,800 billion. This is the second airport in Vietnam to be invested in under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, after Van Don Airport in Quang Ninh province.

The project covers an area of more than 265 hectares and is designed to meet the standards of a Code 4C airport (according to ICAO standards) and a military airport of level II. It will be capable of accommodating Code E aircraft and handling up to 5 million passengers and 25,500 tons of cargo annually.

The airport is expected to be operational by July 2026.

In December 2024, T&T Group became a strategic shareholder of Vietravel Airlines, marking another step into the aviation industry.

According to Mr. Do Quang Hien, becoming a strategic shareholder of Vietravel Airlines is a significant milestone for T&T Airlines, T&T SuperPort, and the T&T Group as a whole in the new phase of the company’s development.

This collaboration and investment not only bring strong resources and numerous new values and opportunities for Vietravel Airlines in enhancing its quality and competitiveness but also promote the development of the transport, aviation, and tourism industries, creating a driving force for economic growth.

Vietravel Airlines is expected to become a crucial link in the chain of infrastructure-logistics-aviation projects that T&T Group has been implementing.

In late July this year, in Quang Tri, representatives of T&T Group and Capital A proposed to the provincial leaders to invest in an Aviation Industrial Complex and Airport City, including key items such as an air transport and logistics center, aircraft manufacturing and assembly, maintenance and overhaul center, aviation research, training, and testing center, along with mixed-use urban and commercial areas.

After hearing the proposal, the leaders of the Quang Tri People’s Committee acknowledged that the complex aligns with the province’s policy to attract strategic investments and the orientation to form functional areas in the adjusted master plan for the construction of the Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone.

The Quang Tri People’s Committee committed to accompanying and providing maximum support to the investor joint venture during the project survey, research, proposal, and implementation process. Furthermore, the province will establish a special working group led by the leaders of the People’s Committee to promptly address legal, planning, land, and technical infrastructure issues, creating favorable conditions for the investor to implement the project as scheduled.

Within just over a year, T&T Group, led by Mr. Do Quang Hien, has made significant strides in the aviation industry, from the construction of an airport, strategic investment in Vietravel Airlines, the proposal for an Aviation Industrial Complex and Airport City, to expanding international cooperation with Bhutan. These strategic moves showcase the group’s long-term development orientation.
