The People’s Committee of Con Dao Special Zone, Ho Chi Minh City, has announced to the Power Project Management Board No. 3 and relevant agencies, units, and armed forces in the area about the test energization of the 100 kV power line to supply electricity from the national grid to Con Dao Island.
The test energization not only marks a new step in the process of bringing national grid power to Con Dao but also raises great expectations for the socio-economic development, especially in the fields of tourism, services, and the islanders’ lives.

On August 21, the People’s Committee of Con Dao Special Zone received a document from the Power Project Management Board No. 3 regarding the test energization of the 100 kV power line supplying national grid electricity to Con Dao.
The items to be tested include: 110 kV power line from the 220 kV Vinh Chau substation to the starting point of the 110 kV Con Dao substation; the sea-crossing underground cable system; and the overhead power line in some locations such as Northwest – Suoi Ot Water Factory, Huynh Thuc Khang area, Con Dao Medical Station, Con Dao Market area, and Vo Van Mich Road.

The project is being urgently implemented by the investor while ensuring safety.
The People’s Committee of Con Dao Special Zone requested agencies, units, and people to coordinate and create favorable conditions for the contractor to implement the project. Especially, it is required not to encroach on the safety corridor of the high-voltage power grid and ensure absolute safety during the test energization process.
The People’s Committee of Con Dao Special Zone affirmed that the testing process would be closely monitored, and safety measures would be fully implemented. In case of any incidents, the Power Project Management Board No. 3 will coordinate timely with the local authorities for handling.
The project to supply electricity from the national grid to Con Dao officially started in March 2025, invested by the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and implemented by the Power Project Management Board No. 3. The project is 103.7 km long, with a scale of 110 kV voltage and a total investment of VND 4,923 billion.
Of which, 17.5 km of overhead power line in the area of Soc Trang province (now Can Tho City); 77.7 km of sea-crossing underground cable connecting the mainland to the island; 8.5 km of underground cable on Con Dao Special Zone, expansion of 220 kV Vinh Chau substation (Can Tho City), and construction of a new 110/22 kV GIS substation in Con Dao Special Zone
